Devils at Penguins: What Bettors Need to Know
Covers.com

New Jersey Devils at Pittsburgh Penguins (-160, 5)

The New Jersey Devils moved atop the Atlantic Division by defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins in the opener of a home-and-home set on Saturday. The Devils will look to keep the upper hand on Sunday when the series shifts back to the Steel City - although they have come away unhappy in six of their last seven trips there. On Saturday, the Devils won their fourth in a row with a 3-1 triumph.

Brandon Sutter netted his team's lone goal as Pittsburgh saw its five-game winning streak come to an end. The Penguins were undone after yielding 10 power plays to New Jersey. Although the Devils only converted twice with the man advantage, the Penguins couldn't establish an offensive rhythm as they were continually forced to kill off penalties.

ABOUT THE DEVILS (7-1-3): Adam Henrique and Bobby Butler made the Penguins pay with power-play goals on Saturday. First-round pick Stefan Matteau netted his first NHL tally and Martin Brodeur turned aside 24 shots in his 1,200th career appearance. The future Hall of Fame netminder may be a spectator on Sunday as Johan Hedberg could get the start in the latter half of the back-to-back set. Hedberg didn't miss a beat in his last start with a 3-0 shutout over the New York Islanders last Sunday.

ABOUT THE PENGUINS (8-4-0): Former Devils defenseman Paul Martin wasn't shy about assessing Pittsburgh's performance on Saturday. "The last few games, we played better hockey than this," Martin told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "We took too many penalties. That's the way we were playing earlier in the year. It takes the flow away from the game. The key for us is to stay out of the box and be smarter." Marc-Andre Fleury made 25 saves on Saturday, but may yield to Tomas Vokoun in Pittsburgh. Vokoun owns a 7-7-1 career mark with two shutouts versus the Devils.

TRENDS:

* Over is 4-1 in the last five meetings.
* Devils are 1-6 in the last seven meetings in Pittsburgh.
* Penguins are 1-5 in their last six in the second game of a home-and-home situation.
* Devils are 5-1 in their last six games following a win.

OVERTIME:

1. Captain Sidney Crosby saw his point streak end at six games on Saturday.

2. New Jersey D Andy Greene, who had two assists on Saturday, has recorded eight points in his last five contests.

3. Penguins D Kris Letang didn't travel to New Jersey for Saturday's tilt due to a lower-body injury. He has missed his team's last two games.
