FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Old Dominion was 2-20 overall including 0-10 in the CAA and had just fired its longtime head coach Blaine Taylor but went out and upset Drexel on the road on Thursday. Northeastern will make sure the same thing does not happen to them. Apparently, all it takes is firing your coach to get a team motivated. Losers of 10 straight games and posting a 0-10 record in the CAA, Old Dominion fired head coach Blaine Taylor with eight games remaining in the regular season. The athletic director said that it was not based solely on wins and losses, but on a number of factors by which a head coach is evaluated. If anyone saw a clip of his radio show a couple weeks ago, surely that has something to do with it. Anyway, the Monarchs came out and played their best game of the season in a 12-point win at Drexel as 12-point underdogs. The first game after a coach is let go is when players tend to step up and that was certainly evident. Now is where we will see the regression. Drexel is having a rough season so they are partly to blame and Northeastern will make sure the same does not happen to them. The Huskies are in first place in the CAA with a 10-1 conference record following two straight wins after suffering their first CAA loss of the season against Georgia St. most impressive this season is the fact that they have played their best on the road, going 9-2 overall including 7-1 in true road games while going just 6-6 in Boston. Northeastern has a two and a half game lead in the CAA which is a cushion but it cannot let this one get away and it should be motivated based on the fact Old Dominion is coming off that big win. The Monarchs are just 1-11 ATS in their last 12 conference games while Northeastern is 11-0 ATS in its last 11 games following an ATS loss.

The Penguins are playing their best hockey of the young season right now, winners of five in a row, outscoring the opposition by a whopping 15 goals over that stretch. The Devils have been sharp lately as well, and while I do expect them to turn in a better showing than we saw in their trip to Pittsburgh one week ago, I don't believe it will be enough for a win. Pittsburgh has been at its absolute best on the road this season, posting a stellar 6-1 record. The Devils have yet to suffer a regulation time loss at home. Obviously something has to give in this spot, and I simply feel that a timely third period goal from the Penguins will prove to be the difference. Note that the Pens were 5-2 winners in their last stop in New Jersey, outshooting the Devils 44-14 in that contest. I expect this one to be played much closer to the vest, but the value remains with the visitors. Marc-Andre Fleury has really come around over his last couple of starts, and should shine in Saturday's game as well.

Philadelphia is finally getting it together, on a 3-1 SU/ATS run and the 76ers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games. Into town come the Bobcats, a team going nowhere, 23rd in the NBA in points scored, 30th in points allowed and 24th in rebounds. It's the second of a back to back spot and the Bobcats are 8-21 ATS in their last 29 games playing on no days rest. And the 76ers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a losing record. Play the 76ers.

Play on the Montreal Canadians as the team will be looking to get back in the win column against its fiercest rival in Toronto.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
The Habs are coming off two straight one goal defeats to Boston and Buffalo. Montreal gave up a lead in the third period to the Sabres and should be playing some desperate hockey here at home.

Montreal is 5-2 SU at home this year and will be looking to avenge a loss to the Leafs in the season and home opener.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Carey Price will be back in net after giving way to Peter Budaj for a night of rest. It is highly unlikely the team would have given up that lead to Sabres with Price in net. Price is sporting a 1.74 GAA with a .936 save percentage while going 6-2 on the year. I think we see Price give us another good performance here on Hockey Night in Canada where he has been superb ever since coming into the league.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Granted the Leafs have played some good hockey of late on the road where the team has just about all its victories this year. I think they are playing with fire though as it is really hard to win on the road on consistent basis in the NHL.

FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
On paper, this looks dangerous - the Broncos currently lead the MAC West while Ball State is wrestling with Central Michigan for possession of the West cellar - but our old reliable database is eco-friendly and dispels that thought. Why? Because WMU arrives in Muncie off a LTKO (League Tournament Knock Out) revenger against Kent State.  With that we note the Broncos are just 1-7 ATS as favorites after fighting the Flashes and have a big-time revenger against Bowling Green on deck (WMU lost by 24 points at home as 4-point chalk last season). Meanwhile, the Gonads suffered a kick in the nuts when they were kneed out of last year's MAC tourney by these Broncos, abruptly ending their campaign at 15-15. Not only are the hosts a solid 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS on this court when playing with LTKO revenge, they've also held their own in this series at Worthen Arena, going 13-6 SU and 11-7-1 ATS, including 4-0 SUATS the last four. With the testicular ones averaging almost 9 PPG more at home than on the road, we'll side with BSU to get some payback today. Fear the scrotum!  We recommend a 1-unit play on Ball State.

The oddsmakers are getting a little to stingy with Michigan laying only two points against this Wisconsin team. Michigan is 12-2 ATS versus teams who average 6 or less steals per game on the season over the last 3 seasons. Wisconsin is 2-9 ATS versus good defensive teams that are allowing less than 64 points per game this season. This Michigan offense is too good for this Badgers team and I believe Wisconsin has already pulled off all the surprise upsets and close games they are capable of this season. Home or away this Michigan team can beat Wisconsin by 10 or more points any day of the week.

In games after allowing 60 or less they are 7-1. George Washington is 3-7 vs winning teams and 1-4 straight up and ats as a home dog of 3 or less. They have also been terrible vs teams who allow 65 or less going 4-19. Look for Butler to get the win and cover.

The simulator shows a high probability that TT will lose this game by fewer than 15 points. Baylor is just 4-14 ATS (-11.4 Units) in home games after playing a road game over the last 3 seasons; 1-8 ATS (-7.8 Units) in home games after a game where they covered the spread over the last 2 seasons. Baylor is reeling from a three-game losing streak and only covered the last one losing by two points at Oklahoma State where they were installed as seven point dogs. Many would argue that this close loss is an emotional boost for them. I differ greatly as this is a clear sign that they are just not quite as good as they once thought they were. A close emotional loss can be a serious hangover for any team, especially when they are facing a known inferior opponent. Baylor is more likely to show up flat believing the game is won before the tip and good get into a serious dog fight in the second half. Take Texas Tech.

Big West onlookers have noted since November that UCSB HC Bob Williams is working with short rations on the attack end, as his offense lacks the perimeter scoring pop that graduated Orlando Johnson and James Nunnally were able to consistently provide the past few years. This season, the Gauchos are grinding in halfcourt sets, with opposing defenses better able to scheme new UCSB main threat F Alan Williams out of the offensive flow.  Better-balanced UOP had little trouble with the Gauchos in the Tigers’ 80-62 win at the Spanos Center back on Jan. 10, hitting 13 triples.  Which is no surprise, since Bob Thomason's troops are the best-shooting in the Big West (47% from floor; Fs Travis Fulton & Khalil Kelly both 53% FGs), Before bolting to the WCC next season, the Tigers still have a little more payback on their minds vs. UCSB after losing all three matchups a year ago.

I know Philadelphia didn't look good against Indiana in their first game without Thaddeus Young, but they are still good enough to win by double digits at home against Charlotte. The Bobcats are just 5-19 on the road this year and losing by 11.8 ppg. They shoot just 42% while giving up 47.5%, including 39.3% from behind the 3-point line. This team has lost six games in a row, only covering twice when they were getting 13+ points.

Philadelphia has been playing great defense lately, holding their last four opponents to 40% or less shooting. At home the Sixers are 15-12 and holding opponents a full percentage point under their normal shooting rate. Even with Philadelphia's injury concerns this should be a blowout.

Somehow, some way the Butler Bulldogs (19-4) have managed to go under the radar once again this season. They have proven to be one of the most underrated teams in the country. That is evident by their 14-7 (67%) ATS record on the season.

Once again, I believe the Bulldogs are undervalued Saturday as only a 3.5-point favorite at George Washington (11-10). These teams are simply in two different classes, and I look for the Bulldogs to roll to another road victory in this one.

Saint Marys Ca at San Diego
Pick: San Diego

Saint Mary's is clearly superior to San Diego, and the Gaels completely dominated the earlier meeting, winning by a lopsided 81-48 count. Look for the rematch to be a whole lot closer. The Toreros are playing much better basketball of late and have clawed their way to the right side of .500. I don't know if they're good enough to steal the outright upset here, but the position couldn't be much better. Saint Mary's is off a brilliant effort on the road Thursday at Santa Clara in what was supposed to be a tough game, and on deck for the Gaels is the big showdown with Gonzaga. I've got great respect for Randy Bennett, and I'm sure he will have his team prepped for this duel, but it's nevertheless a monster sandwich spot. I expect this one to be competitive all the way, and I'll be happy to grab the doubles with San Diego.

Just a few too many points here for the Ducks to lay IMO. Utah has played much better overall their last handful of games & have inserted a new young PG (freshman Brandon Taylor) that is playing well for them. They are coming off a 18 pt blowout loss at Oregon St on Thursday Night. The Utes have shown the knack for staying within the number, when they are double digit dogs, as they are (3-0 ATS) in this role, this season. The Ducks are just lost w/out stud point guard Artis, and I will grab the +12.5 here and don't think the Ducks will cover this large number here.

Concept of Carolina as a momentum dog off three straight victories, may appeal to some, as they seek their revenge. Miami took four in the first meet, in which they comfortably deposed of Tarheels, 68-59. Not much has changed in terms of the Carolina failures in the open court against the Hurricane pressure D. Return of big man Johnson to the front court allows Kadji to drift to the perimeter for the mid-range J, where he is lethal. Miami back court of Larkin and Scott, among most underrated in the land. That brings it to the bench where Uncle Roy has no cards he can play that veteran Miami HC Larranaga has not seen. Counting all stops, Larranaga is 80-51 ATS home in conference play, including 3-0 ATS this year. Following a midweek buffer cruise over BC, the Hurricanes will be primed to blow away this visitor.

Anyone who watched the Kansas demise at TCU, had to question their passion and intensity more than their ability. Not very Jayhawk-like in light of their previous home loss to OK St. It seems that you can never critique a Lon Kruger team for their lack of effort. Today the Sooners are in a back to the wall scenario, off consecutive defeats of their own. Combined with the motivation of 67-54 revenge for a loss just 2 weeks ago, we strongly favor the Sooners, who at 14-7 SU, 5-4 SU in the league, have more motivation to bounce back.

At 11-12 SU, and having beaten Penn St by the smallest margin of any league opponent, 68-64, the Huskers will not be looking past the Lions. In fact, reports from Lincoln indicate that wily second year NE mentor, Miles, has used the extra prep time to expand his playbook. That bodes poorly for a Nittany Lion team who has been a shell of what they expected before the mid-November loss of best boy Frasier. It has translated into a 0-10 SU Big Ten log, with 9/10 of those losses coming by 9 or more points. It has dropped the record of HC Chambers to 9-19 ATS as underdog. Huskers pull to 500 and get the sweep against the towel tossing Lions.

This is a low Total for Roy Williams Coached North Carolina Teams. Carolina has offensive talent, are poorly Coached on defense and when things go bad for NC, Williams answer is to play faster. Carolina is 4-1 Over in their last 5 games, with their average Total being 149 in those games. By this time of Yr everyone knows Miami is good, they play well together and have some scorers. North Carolina has no chance of beating Miami if they play half court, that's why I expect NC to push the pace all game.

Florida State's mind is probably on revenge against Miami who they'll face next in what is a huge rivalry game for them. Florida State really has not played well on the road to begin with -6.7 on the season, -3 turnover margin, -2 rebound margin and they shoot 60% from the FT line. Wake Forest has played well at home in this role and I expect them to win this game outright. Florida State is just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 vs. ACC while Wake Forest is coming off a big loss to North Carolina on the road but are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 following an ATS loss.

The Sycamores of Indiana State may be this year's best kept secret. ISU's strength of schedule ranks 32nd in the country. They have at least two signature wins already, not to mention an OT loss to then #25 New Mexico. One of those notable ISU wins occurred this past Wednesday when they played a flawless game against Creighton and trounced them by 19. It ran the Sycamores’ home record to 9-1. Indiana State has played in some noteworthy tournaments early on that has this hugely talented team well-prepped and soaring into BracketBusters weekend later this month. The Sycamores can sense a ticket to the dance is within their grasp and they're very aware they can't let up here.

The Salukis are going nowhere. They're 2-10 in the conference and sit in last place. They turned some heads this past week when the defeated Wichita State by two points as a 10-point dog and that has many bettors believing they're getting too many points here. That's so not the case. The win over the Shockers was the Salukis game of the year. They had lost six straight previously, including two 30+ point losses. Now they're being asked to travel after that huge win, where they are 3-9 on the road this year. SIU's last road win was way back on Dec 15 when they defeated Green Bay by two points. The Salukis season is all but over and if they do have a good game or two left in them it is surely not going to occur on the road in this environment.

We get a very beatable number here due to St. Joe’s 7-4 road record, which looks solid on paper but in reality, it's anything but. A closer look reveals that the combined records of the teams that St. Josephs have defeated on the road are 33-92, a mere 59 games under .500. Among those wins are A-10 residents Duquesne and Fordham, who are a combined 2-14 in the conference. The Hawks are a below average team with little depth but is being treated with much more respect than warranted.

UMass is perhaps a notch below the two powers in the A-10, Butler and VCU but they're on par with the 3rd and 4th place Saint Louis and Charlotte, with the latter two sitting just a game behind the leaders in that Atlantic 10 conference. The Minutemen come in with a respectable 15-6 overall record and they've won 12 of 15. Minutemen PG Chaz Williams ranks in the top 10 nationally in assists per game. He joins DeAndre Kane of Marshall as the only Division I players with averages of at least 16.0 ppg, 7.0 apg and 4.0 rpg. UMass is a tall and talented group that is playing with a lot of confidence right now. The last three visits here by the Hawks have resulted in UMass victories by 11, 18 and 8 points respectively. This trip has been a trying one for the Hawks as they had to battle the NE storm. Game time was moved to 7 pm, in order to aid the visitor. Good spot for UMass in all respects.

The Creighton Blue Jays feature a high-octane offense that ranks #1 in the country in FG percentage at .514. They also rank third in the country in both points per game and assists per game and with its 20-4 overall record, it comes as no surprise that they're ranked #16. With that ranking and outstanding shooting numbers comes a premium to wager on Creighton and that's an angle we frequently look to fade.

The Redbirds of Illinois State may be the most undervalued and underachieving team in all of Division I basketball. This talented team is just 5-7 in the Missouri Valley and just 14-10 overall. Preseason projections had them as a threat to win this conference and perhaps even sneak into the top 25. However, a couple of devastating losing streaks of four and six games put a halt to all those aspirations. That was then. Most recently, the Redbirds have won five of six. They stormed back from a 17-point deficit at Drake on Wednesday to win 94-86. Illinois State has already won straight up at Dayton and took Louisville to the wire in a three-point road loss. The Redbirds have demonstrated numerous times how difficult they can be to play against and they're one of the very few mid-major clubs that are capable of trading buckets with the Blue Jays. Right time and right price has us backing this very live pooch.
