Rangers at Flyers: What Bettors Need to Know

New York Rangers at Philadelphia Flyers (-107, 5.5)

The Philadelphia Flyers weren't supposed to be drowning at the bottom of the Atlantic Division, but that's exactly where they find themselves after three games. Philadelphia isn't expecting to receive any sympathy from the New York Rangers when the bitter rivals meet in the City of Brotherly Love on Thursday. Future Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur registered his 120th career shutout - and 10th versus the Flyers - as New Jersey cruised to a 3-0 decision on Tuesday.

After two losses to start the campaign, New York recorded its first win in scintillating fashion. Marian Gaborik scored an unassisted goal 27 seconds into overtime to cap his 14th career hat trick as the Rangers avenged a season-opening loss to Boston with a 4-3 home victory on Wednesday. New York looks to continue its positive momentum when it vies for its ninth consecutive victory over Philadelphia.

ABOUT THE RANGERS (1-2-0): Henrik Lundqvist, who made 26 saves versus Boston, boasts an impressive 22-10-3 career mark with four shutouts against Philadelphia. The reigning Vezina Trophy winner was in net for all six contests versus the Flyers last season - including a brilliant 29-save performance in a 2-0 shutout on Nov. 26. Should coach John Tortorella elect to keep Lundqvist on the bench with his team playing on back-to-back nights, former Flyers netminder Martin Biron is more than a capable substitute.

ABOUT THE FLYERS (0-3-0): Philadelphia will be without the services of left wings Scott Hartnell and Brayden Schenn for Thursday's game. Hartnell's left foot was on the receiving end of a slap shot in the third period of Tuesday's loss to the Devils. Hartnell was able to finish the game but has been ruled out indefinitely. In that same contest, Schenn left his feet to lower the boom on defenseman Anton Volchenkov, earning the former a one-game suspension from the league on Wednesday.

3. New York RW Arron Asham sat out Wednesday's game with a groin injury. It is not known if he will suit up against the team with which he played from 2008-10.
