Game of the day: Wisconsin at Florida
By Covers.com

Wisconsin Badgers at Florida Gators (-5, 121)

Defense is the focal point as Florida hosts Wisconsin on Wednesday. The 20th-ranked Badgers, which posted an 87-47 victory over Southeastern Louisiana in Sunday's opener, led Division I in scoring defense last season. Meanwhile, the Gators allowed just nine first-half points -- setting a shot-clock era team record for fewest points allowed in a half -- during Sunday's 84-35 win against Alabama State.

Both teams have gone to backup plans at point guard. Florida coach Billy Donovan suspended his starter, Scottie Wilbekin, last week and said Tuesday he's highly unlikely to play against the Badgers. Wisconsin's earmarked starter Josh Gasser tore his ACL in preseason practice.

ABOUT WISCONSIN (1-0): The Badgers are facing a top-10 opponent on the road in November for the second straight season. forward Mike Bruesewitz was expected to miss the first month of the season after lacerating his leg in a freak mishap in practice. Instead, Bruesewitz suited up and tallied 10 points in 13 minutes of floor time against Southeastern Louisiana. Having Bruesewitz available will help against Florida's talented front line.

ABOUT FLORIDA (1-0): Donovan challenged his starters prior to the Alabama State game, promising to bench the entire quintet quickly if he didn't like their play. The Gators responded by taking an 8-0 lead and 8 percent shooting in the first half. Kenny Boynton, who leads all active SEC players in career scoring, is playing the point in Wilbekin's absence. Boynton had 22 points and five assists Sunday, surpassing Neal Walk to become the seventh all-time scorer at Florida.

TRENDS:

* Badgers are 5-0 ATS in their last five vs. Southeastern.
* Gators are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six non-conference games.
* Under is 7-1 in Badgers last eight vs. Southeastern.
* Over is 9-3 in Gators last 12 vs. Big Ten.

TIP-INS:

1. Last season marked the second time in the past five years Wisconsin led Division I in scoring defense. The Badgers have ranked in the top 10 in fewest points allowed for six straight years.

2. The Badgers started redshirt freshman George Marshall at PG against Southeastern Louisiana. Marshall became the first freshman to start a Wisconsin season opener since Devin Harris in 2001.

3. Florida junior F Casey Prather will miss the Wisconsin game. Prather is still recovering after suffering two concussions in a nine-day span.

Wisconsin at Florida

Wisconsin and Florida try and keep unblemished seasons in tack. Badgers off a 26 win campaign and trip to the Sweet 16 thanks to a nation best 53.2 points allowed tipped things off overwhelming Southeastern Louisiana Lions 87-47 at the Kohl Center in a non-lined game. Meanwhile, Florida also finishing 2011-12 with 26 wins before bowing out in the Elite Eight Round cruised past Alabama St. Hornets 84-35 in their non-lined game on Sunday. Wisconsin will be competitive thanks to it's suffocating defensive but losing Jordan Taylor (14.8 PPG) their top scorer from last seasons team which averaged a mere 64 points/game seniors Ryan Evans (11.0), Jared Berggren (10.5) had better step. Billy Donovan's Gators return three starters that helped the team net 75.9 points/game last season.

College Basketball Points Spreads, Picks and Trends
By: The Linemakers
Sportingnews.com

Wisconsin vs. Florida headlines Wednesday’s college hoops slate. Here are point spreads and trends analysis for that top-25 clash and some other games on tonight’s card from The Linemakers on Sporting News.

No. 22 Wisconsin at No. 10 Florida, 7:00 p.m. ET

Line: Florida -6, Total: 122.5

Trends:

Wisconsin is 1-4 SU in its last five games on the road

The total has gone over in five of Wisconsin’s last six games on the road

Florida is 4-1 SU in its last five games

Florida is 22-2 SU in its last 24 games at home

The Linemakers take: Both teams are without their projected starting point guards. Scott Wilbekin is suspended for Florida, and Kenny Boynton moves from shooting guard to point. Josh Gasser of Wisconsin tore his ACL in preseason practice and was replaced by redshirt freshman George Marshall in the opener. Also, Florida forward Casey Prather is out with a concussion.

UAB vs. No. 15 Creighton, 8:05 p.m. ET (Omaha, Neb.)

Line: Creighton -15.5, Total: N/A

Trends:

Blazers are 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 Wednesday games.

Blazers are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall.

Blazers are 22-9-2 ATS in their last 33 road games.

Bluejays are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 Wednesday games.

Bluejays are 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 non-conference games.

Bluejays are 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight home games.

Bluejays are 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 games overall.

Toledo at Northern Iowa ( -15)

Toledo, picked to win the MAC West, has started the season 0-2, losing both games on road. The Rockets had 19 wins last season and return all five starters this year, but they are not eligible for the NCAA Tournament. This is a big number for Northern Iowa, which has four starters back from a 20-win team, to be laying. Northern Iowa faces a brutal non-conference schedule the rest of the way.
