Five Things You Need to Know in Sports

Want to start your sports day off right? Looking for some action and the most exciting matchups of the day? There are two football games tonight and two MLB playoff games. Here is a brief look at the top four important matchups of the day along with future odds.

1)Pittsburgh at Syracuse,  Carrier  Dome

Both teams are coming off byes. Two weeks ago, Pitt defeated FCS-member Gardner-Webb, 55-10, while Syracuse lost at Minnesota, 17-10. Last year: PITTSBURGH (-8.5) over Syracuse, 33-20. RB Ray Graham leads a resurgent Panthers squad while QB Ryan Nassib anchors the Orange attack. Fave is 7-2 ATS L9 in series. Syracuse is a 1.5-point favorite with a total of 58.

2)Utah State at BYU, from Lavell Edwards Stadium, Provo

Utah State is 4-1, coming off a 35-13 win over UNLV, while BYU (3-2) blanked Hawaii, 47-0 last Friday.  Last year: BYU (-7') defeated Utah State at home, 27-24. BYU's defense has been strong early in the season and freshman QB Taysom Hill provided 143 yards on the ground last week. Utah State is 4-0 ATS L4 in series. BYU is a 6.5-point favorite and the total is 46.

3)St. Louis at Atlanta,  Wild Card Game,  Kyle Lohse (16-3, 2.86 ERA) vs. Kris Medlen (10-1, 1.57 ERA)

Chipper Jones doesn't want to his career to end tonight as the Braves will host the defending World Series-champion St. Louis Cardinals on Friday in the National League's one-game wild card playoff. The Braves were one of the best teams in baseball in the second half and send their best pitcher in Kris Medlen, who takes the mound opposite a clutch Kyle Lohse. Home team is 4-1 ATS L5 in series. Atlanta opened as a -165 favorite with a total of 7.
