NBA season win totals released in Las Vegas

NBA season win totals are out, and the defending champion Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder sit atop the list, with the revamped Los Angeles Lakers right on their heels.

The Las Vegas Hotel & Casino SuperBook released the first NBA win totals on the betting market Tuesday afternoon, as training camps opened across the Association.

The Heat and Thunder both opened at 60.5 wins, with the Lakers at 59.5.

The SuperBook also added conference and division futures odds to their NBA Championship numbers, which have been up since the summer.

Last October, the talk was all about a lockout that ultimately shortened the season into four jam-packed months. The condensed schedule prevented Nevada sports books from releasing the very popular win totals, which are projections of how many wins each team will post during an 82-game regular season.

Bettors don’t have that problem this season and now have four weeks to take positions on which teams will go over or under their win totals.

The season tips off Tuesday, Oct. 30, with LeBron James and the Heat once again the team to beat. Miami cruised past the Thunder in The Finals in June and added 3-point specialist Ray Allen in the offseason to an already loaded roster.

But it was the Lakers who made the biggest offseason splash, and the additions of Dwight Howard and Steve Nash forced oddsmakers to move L.A.

The 1995-96 Chicago Bulls own the most-ever wins in a season with 72. The 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers won only nine games, the fewest in league history.
