Five Things You Need to Know in Sports

Want to start your sports day off right? Looking for some action and the most exciting matchups of the day? The NFL is on tap so let's get right to it. Here is a brief look at the top five important matchups of the day.

1)Carolina (1-2) at Atlanta (3-0), 1pmET, Georgia Dome (FOX)

QB Matt Ryan has a lead-best 114.0 quarterback rating. The Panthers need a strong game from QB Cam Newton, who has struggled lately with accuracy and decision-making. The Giants exposed rookie QB Josh Norman, who will need help this week against Roddy White or Julio Jones. The Falcons have scored on all three of their opening drives thisseason.  Atlanta is 14-5 ATS with a total of 42.5 to 49 points. Atlanta is a 7-point favorite with a total of 49.

2)San Francisco (2-1 at NY Jets (2-1), 1pmET, MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, N.J

The Niners are coming off a stunning loss at Minnesota on the road. The Jets edged Miami on the road in overtime, but lost All-Pro CB Darrelle Revis to an ACL injury. The Jets running game is getting a spark from Bilal Powell, but the Niners allow just 3.4ypc. QB Alex Smith will look to take advantage of the loss of Revis and go after CB Kyle Wilson. NY Jets are 9-1 Over off a road win. San Francisco is a 4-point favorite with a total of 41.5.

3)New England (1-2) at Buffalo (2-1), Ralph Wilson Stadium

Last year, Buffalo shocked New England at home, winning 34-31 getting 7. The Patriots are trying to figure out a way to not fall to 1-3 on the season. They’ll go up against the Bills, a team that has won two straight games but might be down to their third-string running back with Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller out with injuries. Tom Brady was sharp last week in a 31-30 loss at Baltimore but the Patriots’ defense was hurt by the Ravens’ passing. Buffalo will need a big game from QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.  New England is 7-1 ATS L8 on the road in series. New England is a 3.5-point favorite with a total of 50.

4)Oakland (1-2) at Denver (1-2), Sports Authority Field at Mile High

Oakland shocked Denver on the road last year, 23-20, but the Broncos got their revenge later in the season, winning by 14. Denver is coming off a tough home loss to Houston, 31-25. Oakland shocked Pittsburgh at home, 34-31. The problem for the Raiders is a defense that allows 264.7ypg in the air  taking on Peyton Manning, Eric Decker, Demayrius Thomas and company. The Raiders need a big game from speedy runner Darren McFadden along with QB Carson Palmer. Oakland is 6-0 ATS on the road vs. division. Denver is a 7-point favorite with a total of 48.

5)NY Giants (2-1) at Philadelphia (2-1), Lincoln Financial Field

This will be a battle of the Giants' underachieving defensive line going up against a depleted Eagles' offensive line. If Eagles' QB Michael Vick can't limit the turnovers, Andy Reid is going to have make a tough decision. The Giants get RB Ahmad Bradshaw back to form a nice duo with Andre Brown. Last year, both teams won on the road in this series. The Eagles will need to blitz early and often.  NY Giants are 9-2 ATS L11 as a dog. The Eagles are a 2.5-point favorite with a total of 47.
