Five Things You Need to Know in Sports
Want to start your sports day off right? Looking for some action along with the most exciting matchups of the day? There are four key baseball games with playoff implications on tap. Here is a brief look at the top four important matchups of the day along with future odds.
1)Washington at Philadelphia, John Lannan (3-0, 4.43 ERA) vs. Kyle Kendrick (10-11, 3.89 ERA)
The Phillies need to win just about every game to have any hope for postseason. Washington is trying to hold on to the NL East lead, which now sits at 5 games after the before Tuesday's results. Washington sends out lefty John Lannan, who was Stephen Strasburg's replacement. Washington is 2-14 in Lannan's last 16 starts vs. Phillies. The Phillies opened up as a -140 favorite with a total of 8.5.
2)Oakland at Texas, Jarrod Parker (11-8, 3.40 ERA) vs. Martin Perez (1-2, 3.78 ERA)
Oakland has lost some tough game lately, which basically cost them a chance at the AL West title and may cost them the top wild card. While their starting pitching is one of the best in majors, their bullpen is ordinary. Oakland is 3-12 L15 in series at Texas. Texas opened as a -140 favorite with a total of 9.5.
3)Seattle at LA Angels, Felix Hernandez (13-8, 2.85 ERA) vs. Ervin Santana (9-12, 4.93ERA)
This is a meaningless game for Seattle, but with Felix Hernandez on the mound, it's no gimme for the Angels. Ervin Santana is an unpredictable pitcher, who usually pitchers better at home and will need to be on target to get past King Felix. Seattle is 3-10 in Hernandez's last 13 starts vs. LAA. The Angels opened as a -140 favorite with a total of
4)Arizona at San Francisco, Wade Miley (16-10, 3.25 ERA) vs. Matt Cain (15-5, 2.86 ERA)
This is the second game of a three-game series and a very good pitching matchup. Wade Miley takes the mound for the Diamondbacks against Matt Cain for the Giants. The Giants are playing for a better seed in the postseason. San Francisco is 9-3 in Cain's last 12 starts vs. Arizona. The Giants opened as a -150 favorite over the Diamondbacks with a total of 6.5.
