New York Rangers at Ottawa Senators (105, 5)

The Senators left the Big Apple with a 1-1 split in their series against the Rangers, but the Game 2 win may have cost them their captain. Daniel Alfredsson is questionable for Game 3 on Monday after taking a high elbow to the side of his head.

"It's tough for us to lose (Alfredsson). Hopefully he should be fine," defenseman Erik Karlsson told the Toronto Sun. "He's still the same old happy guy. We'll see how he feels and it's probably going to be a game-time decision."

Ottawa's offense is more than Alfie. Karlsson and Jason Spezza can carry the weight but the way the series is heading -- with this rough and tough stuff -- better suits the Rangers.

Pick: Rangers

St. Louis Blues at San Jose Sharks (-115, 5)

Having two goalies is usually a bad thing, but not for the Blues. St. Louis lost its starting goalie Jaroslav Halak to a lower body injury in Game 2 and he will miss Game 3 because of the injury too.

What a luxury it is to turn to their backup Brian Elliott, the league's leader in goals-against average. Elliott stopped all 17 shots in relief of Halak in Game 2.

Things got pretty messy in the third period of Game 2. The two teams combined for over 100 penalty minutes in the third period only. That's just the kind of game a Ken Hitchcock-coached team wants to play.

St. Louis has won five of its last six against San Jose.

Pick: Blues

Bruins-Capitals Game 3: What Bettors Need to Know
By Covers.com

Boston Bruins at Washington Capitals (+118, 5)

THE STORY:
After falling 2-1 in double overtime on home ice in Game 2, the Boston Bruins travel to Washington for Game 3 on Monday. Nicklas Backstrom’s wrist shot eluded Boston goaltender Tim Thomas at 2:56 to even the series at 1-1. Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby made 39 saves to earn his first career playoff victory. The Bruins have scored one one goal in each contests putting 74 shots on net.

ABOUT THE BRUINS: The defending Stanley Cup champions were second in goals per game with 3.17 in the regular season, but haven’t been able to mount any offense because of the defensive style of play Washington has recently adopted. The club’s top line of Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and Tyler Seguin has combined for 20 shots and no points in the series. "Their system right now resembles a little bit to one of Tampa," coach Claude Julien said. "It's something that we're probably not used to seeing from Washington because it was not that same type of hockey that they played before.”

ABOUT THE CAPITALS: Holtby has filled in admirably for Tomas Vokoun (groin) and Michal Neuvirth (lower body), stopping 72 shots. "My game really didn't change too much. It was basically the way we played, the way the game was played as a whole as to why I was successful. I want to work on some things; I want to be better and to get better throughout the series. Right now all the focus is on Game 3,” Holtby said after Game 2. There is no timetable for Vokoun’s return. Neuvirth is practicing with the club and could return later in the series.

OVERTIME:

1. None of Boston's seven point leaders in the regular season has one in the series.

2. Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask has made the trip to Washington with the team as he continues to recover from a groin injury, while defenseman Adam McQuaid remained in Boston to receive treatment for an upper-body injury.

3. Backstrom has two overtime game-winning goals in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Both came in Game 2 of a series after the Capitals dropped Game 1. His first overtime winner came on April 17, 2009, in a 6-5 win over the Montreal Canadiens in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.

TRENDS:

Boston is 5-0 in its last five road games and 20-8 in its last 28 playoff games as a favorite.

The under is 34-16-1 in the last 51 meetings between these two teams.

Washington is 5-2 in its last seven games overall.

PREDICTION: Bruins 3, Capitals 2
