Los Angeles Kings at Edmonton Oilers (+125, 5)

On paper, it looks as though the Los Angeles Kings have an inside track on a playoff berth.

Paced by Jonathan Quick’s team-record ninth shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over Calgary Wednesday, the Kings moved into eighth place in the Western Conference.

"He's our MVP this year by far," Justin Williams, who scored his 19th goal of the season in the third period,  told reporters. "Even though we were up 1-0, they got a couple of chances on the power play and he shut them down. He's been stellar for us all year and in the biggest game of the year we needed him."

Quick only had to make 19 saves in the win and now the Kings have two games left against the lowly Edmonton Oilers (who were thoroughly outplayed in a 3-1 loss to Dallas Wednesday) and another against Minnesota.

The Oilers have been hit-or-miss at home recently, while Los Angeles needs to pile on the points before a home-and-home with San Jose to finish the regular season.

Pick: Kings

Nashville Predators at Detroit Red Wings (-130, 5.5)

The Detroit Red Wings franchise is the model of consistency in the NHL.

The club clinched its 21st consecutive playoff berth with Monday’s 7-2 win over the Blue Jackets. That’s why it was so surprising to see the Wings roll over when they lost the back end of that home-and-home 4-2 in Columbus on Wednesday.

It wasn’t just that the Wings lost, but that they looked completely lost on the ice. At one point, coach Mike Babcock called a timeout, only to say absolutely nothing to his team.

That’s not a good sign.

“We weren’t happy with our performance,” captain Nicklas Lidstrom told reporters after. “We knew they were going to be better. We as a team didn’t respond well to that. We made some mistakes early and that they capitalized on and that gave them a lot of momentum.”

As good as Nashville is on the road, the Predators are going to see a top-notch effort from the Wings in this one.

Pick: Red Wings

New York Rangers Look To Take Down Montreal Canadiens

The battle on the NHL lines will be hot and heavy on Friday, March 30th between the New York Rangers (48-21-7) and the Montreal Canadiens (29-34-14). It all gets started at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY with the puck dropping at 7:30 ET. Live television coverage is set for TSN and RDS.

The Rangers still have six games left to play on the season, and they very well could need to take at least seven or eight points from those games to get the job done and to win the Atlantic Division and the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs that goes with it. They have 103 points and are three clear of the Pittsburgh Penguins as well as six clear of the Philadelphia Flyers. Six points will ensure home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Ten will sew things up.

Winning four out of five on the NHL betting lines has been crucial for New York, knowing that Pittsburgh just isn't dropping all that many points down the stretch. The team is playing well on both sides of the ice, though it is clearly the defense that has set the tone.

Henrik Lundqvist has 36 victories on the year and a stunning 1.93 GAA, and as long as he keeps that up, not only are the Rangers the most dangerous team on the NHL playoff betting lines, but he could be well on his way to the Vezina Trophy as well.

Meanwhile, what has been a completely disastrous season for the Habs just keeps getting worse. A 3-2 shootout loss at home to the Florida Panthers caused the fans at the Bell Centre to bust out the boo birds, knowing that their team has badly underachieved this year. This is a squad that is fighting to not be the worst ranked team in the conference, and at least thus far, the fight isn't one that is going all that well.

If there is a bit of good news for those that are looking to play the NHL gambling lines in this one on the underdogs, the Canadiens have won their last two games against New York. They scored a 4-1 victory in January and a 4-0 shutout in November, but those two games were played in Quebec. The last meeting here in the Big Apple came back on November 5th, a game that was won by the Rangers 5-3.
