2011 Presidents Cup Odds To Win – International Team Favored

MELBOURNE, Australia (TheSpread) – Though it doesn’t have the same appeal of the Ryder Cup, the Presidents Cup is still a big team event and it takes place this week.

The Presidents Cup is similar to the Ryder Cup but the teams that compete are the United States and the International Team, which consists of all countries not in Europe or the U.S. The first of the four day event consists of six foursomes matches while the second day is six matches of four-ball. Five matches of each are play on Saturday and then on Sunday, 12 singles matches are played. Each match is worth a point and the team that wins more points wins the Presidents Cup. This year’s event takes place from Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia.

Oddsmakers have made the International Team the favorite in this group, giving them odds of -120 to win while the United States Team has a money line of +100.

Greg Norman is the captain of the International Team and the team consists of Jason Day, Adam Scott, Charl Schwartzel, K.J. Choi, Kim Kyung-Tae, Retief Goosen, Geoff Ogilvy, Ernie Els, Y.E. Yang, Ryo Ishikawa, Robert Allenby, and Aaron Baddeley.

Fred Couples is the captain of the U.S. Team. Playing on the squad is Matt Kuchar, Steve Stricker, Dustin Johnson, Webb Simpson, Nick Watney, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, David Toms, Hunter Mahan, Jim Furyk, Bill Haas, and Tiger Woods.

The United State is the defending champion and has won the last three Presidents Cup. The International Team has only won this event one time in eight tries.

The 2011 Presidents Cup is played at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia and will start on Thursday, Nov. 17 and conclude on Sunday, Nov. 20.
