Thursday Service Plays

Re: Thursday Service Plays

Drew Gordon

Utah State at IDAHO +6

I know full well a lot of people like Utah State in this contest, but fact remains, after a deeper review, you'll see why the Vandals are the only play here in this match up.

First and foremost, the Vandals head coach, Don Verlin, was an assistant at Utah State for 10 years, and knows coach Morrill and his system extremely well. This was evident in their last meetings, a 70-61 Aggies win, but Vandals cover as 13'-point road dogs January 5th! Vandals commited only 8 turnovers in that contest, and despite the obvious edge in talent to the Aggies, the game was relatively close throughout.

Second, while Utah State is an impressive 7-1 ATS on the road, that number is a bit off, because we've seen the Aggies have trouble on the road of late. They almost lost at Fresno State (won and covered in OT) AND were unimpressive at San Jose State, winning 62-58, but failing to cover. In other words, for as good as the Aggies are, they have shown vuneralbility on the road, and that will be the case again tonight against a coach that knows how to capitalize on their deficiencies.

Finally, the Vandals are coming off an ugly blowout loss at Hawaii (lookahead to this contest maybe), and will be looking to bounce back strong tonight. Coach Verlin has been hyping this game to his team, saying this is a "huge" week for his team, and I expect they'll respond accordingly, especially after getting their asses handed to them by Hawaii. In the end, the Aggies likely win, but its the Vandals who collect the cash!

Take Idaho plus the points over Utah State in this college hoops match up.

The Southern California Trojans (15-7) have won five of the last six in this series and sometimes trends just continue to play out.  For example, USC is 17-7 against the spread in their last 24 road games and Arizona (aside from now playing without Lute Olson as head coach) have covered only 10 of their last 31 games on Thursday nights. I believe that USC is a better overall team with more talent, and they get the big win tonight.in PAC 10 action,PREDICTION: USC WINS 70-63
