Golden State (0-1, 1-0 ATS) at Toronto (1-0 SU and ATS)

The Raptors opened the season with an impressive 95-84 upset victory over the Sixers on Wednesday, cashing as a five-point road underdog. Chris Bosh (27 points, 11 rebounds) led four Toronto players in double figures against Philadelphia.

The Warriors got 27 points from newcomer Corey Maggette and 26 from Stephen Jackson in Wednesday’s opener against the Hornets, but it wasn’t enough as Golden State fell 108-103, but covered as a seven-point home underdog. The Warriors have lost three in a row and seven of 10 dating to last year (2-8 ATS).

Golden State is on a 5-1 SU and ATS run against the Raptors, including a 106-100 win as a 6½-point underdog in their lone trip to Canada last year. The host is 6-2 ATS in the last eight series clashes, all as a favorite, and the SU winner has covered the spread in each of the last 10 head-to-head battles.

Despite Wednesday’s upset win, Toronto is still just 10-22 ATS in its last 33 games overall. The Raptors are on additional ATS slide of 0-6 against the Western Conference, 2-8 versus the Pacific Division, 1-7 after a SU win, 1-9 on Fridays and 5-17 when playing on one day of rest. Meanwhile, going back to last season, the Warriors are 1-4 ATS in their last five on the highway and 8-21 ATS in their last 29 when playing on one day of rest. On the bright side, Golden State is on positive pointspread runs of 6-2 on Fridays and 5-1 against the East.

The Warriors are in the midst of “over” streaks of 4-0 overall, 12-3-1 against the Eastern Conference and 5-1-1 on Fridays, but the under is 7-2 in their last nine on the road and 8-2-1 in their last 11 against the Atlantic Division. Also, the under is 4-0 in Toronto’s last four overall and 5-0-1 in its last six at the Air Canada Centre.

ATS ADVANTAGE: GOLDEN STATE

Chicago (1-0 SU and ATS) at Boston (1-0, 0-1 ATS)

The Bulls head to Beantown to take on the defending NBA champs on the heels of Tuesday’s 108-95 season-opening rout of the Bucks, cashing as a six-point home favorite. Chicago, which has won and covered three in a row dating to the end of last season, spread the wealth around in the win over Milwaukee with six players scoring in double figures. That included rookie point guard Derrick Rose, who had 11 points, nine assists and four rebounds in his debut.

Boston raised its 17th championship banner to the rafters Tuesday, then needed to rally from a seven-point halftime deficit to top Cleveland 90-85. Paul Pierce (27 points) was one of five players to score in double digits for the Celtics, who failed to cover as a 6½-point home chalk, ending a 7-0 ATS run going back to last year’s Eastern Conference finals.

The Celtics swept a four-game season series from Chicago last year, winning all four games by double digits, with the average margin of victory being 18.3 points per game. Not only did Boston easily cover the number in all four contests, but it is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings. Prior to last year, Chicago had been on a 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS tear against the Celtics.

The SU winner is 10-0 ATS in the Bulls’ last 10 games overall and 9-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these teams.

Even though it has cashed in three straight games, Chicago is still in ATS slides of 7-21 against the Atlantic Division, 6-21 after a SU victory, 2-9 after a double-digit victory, 1-6 after a spread cover and 1-5 when playing on two days’ rest. Boston is on ATS runs of 15-6 at home and 6-2 when going on two days’ rest, but Doc Rivers’ club is 3-9 ATS in its last 12 versus the NBA Central.

The under is 6-2 in the Bulls’ last eight games overall, but the over is 13-4-2 in their last 19 on the highway, 10-3 in their last 13 on Friday and 7-2 in their last nine against the Atlantic Division. For the Celtics, the under is on runs of 4-1 against the Eastern Conference and 4-1 versus the Central Division. The under is also 6-2 in the last eight Boston-Chicago matchups, but four of the last five meetings in Boston have hurdled the total.

ATS ADVANTAGE: BOSTON

San Antonio (0-1 SU and ATS) at Portland (0-1 SU and ATS)

The Spurs came up short in Wednesday’s season opener against the Suns, falling 103-98 as a 1½-point home favorite despite 32 points each from superstars Tony Parker and Tim Duncan. San Antonio has dropped three in a row and five of its last six going back to last spring’s Western Conference Finals series against the Lakers. However, Gregg Popovich’s squad is still 12-4 (9-7 ATS) in its last 16 regular-season contests.

Portland not only got humiliated in its opener – a 96-76 loss at the Lakers as an eight-point underdog – but it lost center Greg Oden to a foot injury early in the game. Oden, who didn’t score in 13 minutes in his NBA debut, is expected to miss at least two to four weeks. The Blazers shot a dismal 34.5 percent from the field against Los Angeles, while allowing the Lakers to make 46.8 percent of their attempts.

The Spurs enter tonight’s contest on a 12-game winning streak against Portland, and they’re 20-9 ATS in the last 29 battles. However, the Blazers went 2-1 ATS in last year’s three meetings, and the teams have alternated spread-covers in the last six head-to-head clashes. Finally, the host is on a 5-1 ATS roll in this rivalry.

San Antonio failed to cover in 10 of its final 13 road games last season (playoffs included) while also going 3-7 ATS in its last 10 against the Northwest Division. On the other hand, the Blazers are on positive pointspread streaks of 5-2 overall, 4-0 at home and 4-1 after a SU defeat.

The Spurs’ game against Phoenix on Wednesday easily eclipsed the posted total, ending a nine-game “under” streak going back to last year’s playoffs. The under is still on runs for San Antonio of 5-0 on the road, 6-1 on Fridays and 4-1 against the Northwest. Also, Portland sports under streaks of 4-1 overall, 12-4 on Fridays, 37-14 against Western Conference foes and 44-21-1 versus Southwest Division opponents.

Play On: Miami Heat

The Heat make their home debut under new head coach Erik Spoelstra knowing they have dominated the Kings in this series, going 15-6 SU and 18-3 ATS in the last 21 games, including 10-1 ATS as a host. With the Kings in for a long season and having a road game at Orlando on deck tomorrow night, look for Miami to get Spoelstra his initial NBA win here tonight.

Denver Nuggets at Los Angeles Clippers
Prediction: Over

Both team's opened the season by playing under the total but tonight they'll be involved in a high-scoring game. Denver has a very good offensive club with Iverson, Anthony and Martin in their starting 5 and expect all 3 to have a better game vs. a Clippers team that gave up 117 points in their opener. The Clippers led by Baron Davis now will score points tonight vs. a Nuggets team that isn't very good defensively. The team's have played over the total in 2 of their last 3 meetings. Play the over.

New York Knicks at Philadelphia 76ers

The Knicks look like a team you may want to start taking Over on a regular basis following their 120-115 win over Miami on Wednesday. The number is really high for tonight's contest with Philly, but consider that New York was 19-4 to the Over last year when coming off a SU win. They were also 27-14 Over in road games. New HC Mike D'Antoni is putting his stamp on his new team. Lots of points again tonight!

Take MIAMI HEAT

A lousy schedule to start the season for a young Sacramento team. In less than a year they've lost Mike Bibby and Ron Artest. The Kings started at Minnesota on Wednesday and didn't play any defense, allowing over 48% shooting in a 98-96 loss. And talk about a slow-footed frontcourt with Mikki Moore and Spencer Hawes. Center Brad Miller is serving a five-game suspension for violating the league's drug program and won't play here. Miami limps home after a loss at the Knicks, 120-115. This is a talented offensive team with Dwayne Wade, Shawn Marion, Udonis Haslem and rookie Mike Beasley. This is the home opener for the Heat while the visitors are a long way from home. Play Miami!

Take SAN ANTONIO SPURS

The Spurs opened on a down note losing at home to Phoenix. Opening night was even worse for Portland. The Blazers got clubbed by the Lakers and lost Greg Oden for at least a couple weeks in the process. San Antonio has absolutely owned this series, winning each of the last dozen meetings. The Spurs are vulnerable right now with Ginobili sidelined. But they still enjoy a matchup advantage against the Blazers, and it's rather obvious that Portland has not yet figured out a way to beat this opponent. With the number where it is, I have to side with San Antonio to get the money tonight.

Chicago at Boston

Boston is 42-15 UNDER vs. a team that scored 100 or more points in their last game and they are 7-3 UNDER off an ATS loss. The Celtics are 4-1 UNDER vs. NBA Central teams and they are 6-2 UNDER their last 8 meetings with the Bulls. Chicago is 4-0 UNDER off a straight up win and they are 4-0 UNDER after allowing 100 or more points in their last game. The Bulls are 6-2 UNDER vs. winning teams and they are 5-0-1 UNDER their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning home record. PLAY ON 'UNDER'

Craig Trapp

Chicago Bulls vs. Boston Celtics
Play: Boston Celtics  -9

This was actually one of Craig's Strongest plays for Friday but he wanted all to have a taste of his premium plays. The Celtics will torment the #1 pick Rose with there tenacious defense. Rose will learn why the Celtics won a championship this past year DEFENSE. Rondo will pick him left and right and make him wonder why he left Memphis. For Boston they won by 5 there first game beating Lebron and the CAVS. They won even though Garnett and Allen shot and play poorly on offense. But that just shows you how good this team is that there defense can win games for them. CHI might be much improved over last year but you will not see it in this game. SCORE BOS 97 - CHI 83

Sacramento Kings vs. Miami Heat
Play: Miami Heat -5.5

Sac continues its tough 4-game road trip to start the season tonight in Miami and I like the Heat come up with a big win at home. Miami has absolutely owned the Kings, going 10-1 SU and ATS at home over the last 11 meetings. Overall, the Heat have won 16 of the last 22 and are 18-4 ATS in those contests. The Kings are way undermanned right now with Brad Miller serving a 5-game suspension. Sac is 7-24 ATS in road games off a cover where they lost the game straight up as an underdog since 1996. Miami is 23-8 ATS in a home game where the total is between 200 and 204.5 points since 1996. Miami has too much fire power for the Kings tonight. Lay the points.

Re: Friday Service Plays

Chris Jordan

San Antonio -2 at PORTLAND

We're on a 9-4 run with complimentary selections, including five of six since Sunday and tonight we're taking the Spurs up in Portland, as the Blazers are back to playing sans Greg Oden.

The Spurs lost outright on their own floor two nights back to Phoenix, so avenging a loss is certainly on the agenda today. And even though the home team is 5-1 against the number the last six times these two have danced, San Antonio is on a 20-9 run overall in this series.

And forget about the point spread for a minute ... it's irrelevant in this game - the Spurs have beaten the Blazers 12 straight times and 19 of the last 20 meetings.

San Antonio swept the season series, 3-0, last season, including a 72-65 win in Portland, where the Blazer were held to a season low in points.

Take the Spurs in this one.

San Antonio at PORTLAND +1'

Both these teams opened the season with losses with the Blazers coming up short in Los Angeles against the Lakers and the Spurs falling at home to the Suns on Wednesday. Now San Antonio travels to Portland and we think the home crowd will have the team ready to go and they'll beat the Spurs tonight.

San Antonio is without Manu Ginobili until at least December and it will make them an average team at best. They got 32 points from both Tony Parker and Tim Duncan against the Suns Wednesday but basically nothing from anybody else. The other three starters totaled just 10 points.

Portland has got a good young nucleus in Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, Travis Outlaw and we know Greg Oden is out but they played all last season without him and they'll come out strong in the home opener.

San Antonio finished last year just 3-10 ATS in its last 13 road games and without Ginobili, it won't be easy anywhere they visit. The home team is 5-1 ATS in the last six matchups between these two squard.

Let's look at Portland to come out strong, get the up-tempo game going and cash our ticket tonight against the Spurs.

Sports Gambling Hotline

New York +8' at PHILADELPHIA

Tonight we are not calling for an outright, but we are calling for the underdog Knicks to stay close to the 76ers in the City of Brotherly Love.

New York pushed the tempo on Wednesday under new coach Mike D'Antoni, and they were rewarded with a 120-115 win over Miami in a game that wasn't as close as the final score - the Knicks leading by double-digits pretty much all the way.

Philadelphia broke out of the gate a little slow, as they have been written about in all the preseason publications as one of the teams in the East that is expected to be there come playoff time, but the Sixers dropped a 95-84 decision to the Raptors on their home hardwood Wednesday.

We expect Philly to have better success tonight, as they are stepping down in competition, but with the "new look" Knicks pushing the ball under D'Antoni, we will not be surprised at all to see New York keep this one closer than expected.

Play on the Knicks plus the points.

Golden State at TORONTO -8

Tonight I am eating the chalk with the Toronto Raptors, as Toronto plays their home opener fresh off a Wednesday night outright double-digit win at Philadelphia.

The Raptors looked strong to the G-Man in that one, I expect them to look strong again tonight against a Golden State team that is going to miss Baron Davis running the show.

The Warriors did stay inside of the number in a home loss to New Orleans on Wednesday, but now they must make the cross-country trek into the Great White North, and I don't think it is going to be a successful one.

The Raptors will look to avenge a season series sweep by Golden State last season, and it is all systems go if you ask the G-Man.

Toronto the call minus the number in their home opener!

Re: Friday Service Plays

Jeff Benton

For Friday’s freebie, we’ll play our first NBA total of the season, looking for the Knicks-76ers contest to go OVER the total.

First off, all it took was one game to see that Mike D’Antoni’s run-and-gun style has translated quite nicely from Phoenix to New York. The Knicks won their season debut by a 120-115 score over Miami, with the game easily soaring over the 209½-point total. Obviously, when you look at this total, the oddsmakers have made a big adjustment … just not big enough.

In Wednesday’s victory against the Heat, the Knicks hoisted up 87 shots (25 from three-point land), making 42, while Miami put the ball in the air a whopping 92 times (23 from beyond the arc), also converting on 42. Additionally, the teams combined for 70 free throws (that’s what happens when you play fast-break basketball).

Now, it’s true that the Sixers managed just 84 points in a 95-84 loss to Toronto on Wednesday, but the Raptors have been a nightmarish matchup for Philly in recent seasons, so that was hardly surprising. Against the Knicks, though, the Sixers have been an entirely different team. Last year, Philly beat New York three times in four tries and scored 101, 105 and 124 points in the three victories – and that was before the offseason addition of Elton Brand, who joins Andre Iguodala, Andre Miller and Thaddeus Young to form a formidable offensive force.

Lastly, even before D’Antoni’s arrival, the Knicks had been an “over” team – including Wednesday’s shootout against Miami, New York is now on “over” streaks of 25-9 overall, 7-1 on the road, 5-0 on Fridays and 19-7 against the Eastern Conference. Look for both teams to surpass 110 points, so play it over the posted price.

3♦ Knicks-Sixers OVER

Re: Friday Service Plays

Matt Rivers

For Friday take the Blazers at home.

Yes I know all about Greg Oden's injury and how he will miss this game but the young and spunky boys from Portland were unreal at home last season without their big man from Ohio State.

The Spurs are the Spurs, a team that is as professional as they come and will come to play. Greg Popovich' squad can beat anybody anywhere but they do have some issues right now as they will be without both Ginobili and Oberto. Not having Ginobili did show in that opening home loss against the Suns and now on the road we are going to see it matter even more. The guy is a total star and the road is a tough place to win anytime.

Look for Brandon Roy and the Trailblazers to feed off of the raucous Rose Garden crowd and be able to get it done in their first win of the season.

The Spurs have won 10 in a row in the series but that all changes today!

Re: Friday Service Plays

Larry Ness

Chicago Bulls @ Boston Celtics
PICK: Chicago Bulls +9

The Celtics raised their 17th championship banner on Tuesday night and then held off the Cavs 90-85, winning but not covering. I had the Cavs in that one, saying that Boston's "Big Three" will have trouble this year matching last year's intensity (especially during the regular season). The trio isn't getting any younger and I also expect to see them get less minutes during the 82-game grind of the regular season. Pierce had 27 points in Tuesday's win but Kevin Garnett was only 5-of-15 from the floor (11 points) and Ray Allen had only eight points on 2-of-9 shooting. Chicago is led this year by Vinny Del Negro, in his first job as a head coach. The Bulls won 49 games two years ago but then lost 49 last year. They opened the new season with a 108-95 win over the Bucks, as six players scored in double figures. Luol Deng had 21 points to lead the way and Ben Gordon had 18 off the bench (expected to be his role this year). Derrick Rose, the NBA's overall No. 1 pick, had 11 points and nine assists in his NBA debut. I'm sticking with my theory that Boston will be vulnerable this year ATS, especially in the early going, as the oddsmakers will need some time to adjust. Take the points.

Re: Friday Service Plays

Info Plays

3* on San Antonio Spurs -2

Reasons why the Spurs cover the spread Friday:

1.)  San Antonio will not lose 2 straight games to start the season.  The Spurs are still a very good team, and it took a come-from-behind win by the Phoenix Suns in the 4th quarter for San Antonio to lose their opener.  Now the Spurs play a depleted Portland Trail Blazers team tonight that has had terrible success against the Spurs as of late.

2.)  Portland is without Greg Oden.  Tim Duncan will have a field day in the middle now that Oden is sidelined with a foot injury.  The Blazers don’t have the manpower inside to slow down the Spurs.

3.)  San Antonio is 7-0 in all games against the Blazers over the last 3 seasons.  The Spurs are 17-8 in their last 25 road meetings against the Blazers as well.  Portland doesn’t have an answer for this veteran San Antonio squad and they won’t magically find the answer in their second game of the season tonight.  Bet the Spurs on the road.

Black Widow Sports

1* on Boston Celtics -8.5

Boston has been a covering machine when playing the Bulls and we look for that to continue tonight as just a single-digit favorite.  Boston went 4-0 SU & ATS in four meetings with the Bulls last season.  The won each meeting by at least 11 points apiece.  Boston beat Chicago by 23 & 25 points in their two home meetings with the Bulls, respectively.  The Celtics have the answer for Chicago as the Bulls settle for way too many jump shots to be able to beat Boston.  That won’t change even with Derrick Rose manning the point in Chicago now.  Chicago is just 3-16 ATS off a home win over the last 2 seasons.  Beating the Milwaukee Bucks at home does not mean the Bulls are improved at all this season.  Their true colors will show against Boston Friday.  Take the Celtics and lay the points.

1 Unit on Toronto Raptors -7.5

The first night of the Chris Bosh-Jermaine O'Neal experiment worked to perfection for Toronto, which got a combined 44 points and 19 rebounds from its high-priced frontcourt en route to a 95-84 victory against the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.  The Golden State Warriors will have no answer for these two studs inside tonight.  The Warriors got worse in the off-season by trading away Baron Davis.  They also are playing without Monta Ellis right now, who is clearly their best scorer, as Ellis is out indefinitely with an ankle injury.  The Raptors have a great compliment of guards who can knock down the 3-point shot to take pressure off Bosh and O’Neal on the inside.  This is a great match-up for the Raptors as they look to start the season 2-0 with a blowout win tonight.  The home team is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings here.  Cash in with the Raptors as the home favorite.
