Friday’s Best NHL Bets
COVERS.com

Dallas at Chicago (-130, 5.5)

Last season the Dallas Stars raised some eyebrows when Mike Smith stole a bunch of starts from veteran netminder Marty Turco before the youngster was shipped to Tampa as a part of the deal that brought Brad Richards and Johan Holmqvist to Dallas. Turco may have to fend off Tobias Stephan for playing time this year if he doesn’t turn his season around in a hurry.

Stephan made 19 saves to earn his first NHL win Wednesday night, while Turco watched from the bench with his 4.26 goals against average and .842 save percentage keeping him company.

Goaltending issues and an offense that’s starting to click means cash for over bettors. Seven of Dallas’ 10 games to date have topped the total.

Pick: Over

Vancouver at Anaheim (-170, 5.5)

Sometimes an early road trip is just what a team needs to get back on track. The Ducks were 1-4 before they reeled off four straight road wins, then topped the trip off by beating the Red Wings back at home in overtime.

A reenergized offense sparked the streak. Anaheim’s big line of Chris Kunitz, Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf caught fire on the trip and the club’s power play is connecting at a 35 percent clip over the last five games. Not good news for Vancouver.

The Canucks are also playing the second part of a back-to-back, after kicking off their road swing Thursday night against Los Angeles.

Pick: Anaheim

Re: NHL News and Notes Friday, October 31

NHL Forecast for October 31st
by Ron Raymond

Here are today's NHL Picks for Friday, October 31, 2008

Dallas vs. Chicago

Marty Turco needs a turnaround game and this is a great spot for the Stars to jump start their all star goalie out! Turco is 14-2-1 SU vs. the Blackhawks lifetime and has 3 shutouts vs. Chicago. Furthermore, the Stars are 8-4-3 (SU) in their last 15 trips to the United Center and the last 4 games between these to two clubs have gone under the total in this building. The Blackhawks have been off for 3 days and could have a bit of rust tonight vs. Dallas. In fact, going back 5 years, when the Chicago Blackhawks are at home and are coming off 3 days rest, they are 3-8 (SU) and the O/U is 7-3-1. My ATS Value Index Ratings says this game has a 73% chance of going UNDER the posted total.

Prediction: Dallas 3 Chicago 2

Vancouver vs. Anaheim

As much as I would love to go Tim Thomas in this spot, as Roberto Luongo shutout the Kings in LA last night, the Canucks are in a bad betting situation. Vancouver will be playing in back to back games and this will be their third game in four nights. When the Canucks are on the road in this exact situation the last 5 years, they are 2-11 SU and the O/U is 9-3-1. According to my source, Luongo is expected to be in nets again tonight and look for Giguere to get the nod for Anaheim. The UNDER is 9-4-2 the last 15 times these two teams have met at the Duck pond. Furthermore, here?s a hockey betting situation since 1996 that is 13-2-1 SU for the home teams in this role; When ANY NHL Team Played as Home team as a Favorite - Vs Western conference opponent - After a conference game - During the month of October - Coming off a Central division opponent and coming off a 1 goal win.

Prediction: Anaheim 3 Vancouver 2
