Wednesday Service Plays

Re: Wednesday Service Plays

Tony Weston

Of course we came through last night as the Chicago Bulls got over easily and delivered in their season opener and delivered for us.

We’re going to keep this thing going as we stay on the hardwood and travel down to Texas where we’re taking the San Antonio Spurs at home over the Phoenix Suns tonight.

This has become one of the best rivalries in the NBA over the last few years as these two teams inevitably slug out in the postseason at some point. But, it seems as if the Spurs always just have a little too much for Phoenix.

Both of these teams have gotten a year older and a step slower and are seeing their windows gradually close on them. But at least tonight, the Spurs will prove once again they are the superior team to Phoenix.

Consider that over their last four meetings the Spurs are 3-1 SU and 2-1-1 ATS against the Suns. Over their last five meetings San Antonio is 4-1 SU against Phoenix and has beaten the Suns by an average of 102.4-100.4.

The Spurs are installed as two-point favorites tonight, and in that five-game stretch San Antonio has won by an average of two points per game. However, when playing at home, the Spurs have beat the Suns by an average margin of 4.3 points per game their last three meetings in San Antonio and by 5.5 points their last two meetings there.

The Spurs will keep up with that home trend and get over on the Suns again tonight. Take San Antonio at home tonight.

Wunderdog

Miami at New York Knicks
Pick: OVER 208.5

The Miami Heat will head to New York in the season opener for both teams. These teams both suffered from disappointing seasons a year ago and look to improve in the upcoming season. The change took place at the top for the Knicks as Mike D'Antoni is now influencing his philosophy as coach of the Knicks. That mindset is one of run, run, run and the Knicks will have a much different look on the court as they attempt to push the ball on every possession. The heat suffered from extensive injuries but will have scoring machine Dwayne Wade and have added another bonafide scorer in Michael Beasley. This total is on the rise because the books got caught napping on what D'Antoni brings to the Knicks and the Heat finally healthy with competent scorers. Look for a high scoring game that soars OVER the total.

1* on Indiana Pacers +10.5

Indiana has changed the outlook of their team for the better.  They brought in T.J. Ford from Toronto and got rid of un-happy players in Jermaine O’Neal and Jamaal Tinsley.  Now the Pacers can refocus and get their franchise turned around under Larry Bird.  He has done all the right things in the offseason to improve his team, and the Pacers should carry that over to the court this year, starting with tonight’s game against the Detroit Pistons.  The Pistons’ window of opportunity is closing fast as this team is getting very old across the board.  Indiana won’t have any problem staying within double-digits of Detroit tonight.  The Pacers finally have a point-guard that can run this team, and several improved players such as Danny Granger, Mike Dunleavy and Troy Murphy to lead their squad.  Take the Pacers and the points.

Indiana Pacers at Detroit Pistons

Detroit has won six straight versus the Pacers and nine of the last 11 meetings, including five of its last six at Detroit. Take the Pistons with Billups, Hamilton and Prince to outscore the Pacers with a powerful balanced attack at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
