Tuesday Service Plays

Re: Tuesday Service Plays

Wunderdog

Milwaukee at Chicago
Pick: UNDER 194.5

These teams will both be looking to rebound from dismal campaigns last season as the Bucks finished the 07-08 season with eight straight defeats, and the Bulls playoff team from a year ago won just 33 games. These teams both were UNDER teams last year, as they combined to play 93-70 to the UNDER or 57.1% UNDERS. The Bulls have always been an UNDER team early in the season, especially at home where they have played 96-61 to the UNDER, during the first half of the season since 1996. That is good for 61.1%. These teams both have a bad taste in their mouth from how last season finished, and that usually leads to defensive intensity early on, so I will go with the UNDER in the opener.

Chris Jordan

Houston at MARSHALL

I can understand why the oddsmakers might want this game over the 60-point plateau, but I don’t understand why they actually put it there. These two teams, based on offensive and defensive production by both teams should generate somewhere around the mid-50s.

Given Marshall’s lack of success on offense the past three times out, and in five of its last six outings, defense is the only way this team has a chance to pull off the home upset. Outside of a 34-27 win at Southern Miss, the Herd put up no more than 21 points in those other five games, averaging 13 points in them.

Now, Houston’s defense leaves a bit to be desired, so I think if you tack on 10 points for Marshall, it can score 23 points tonight. That leaves Houston to nab 39 points on the road, if you were to like the over. Is it capable? Sure, the Cougars have put up at least 41 points in their last three games. But will they? I don’t think so. Not in Huntington, West Virginia.

2♦ Houston/Marshall UNDER

MILWAUKEE BUCKS / CHICAGO BULLS
Take MILWAUKEE BUCKS

Opening night for the Bucks and Bulls as another NBA campaign gets underway. Scott Skiles is now in charge in Milwaukee, and the Bucks figure to be improved with the off-season roster changes. The Bulls might be better down the road, but I think they could struggle early. New coach Vinny Del Negro is trying to implement a more defensive-oriented game plan and it may take some time for the new philosophy to take hold. I also wonder about the chemistry on this team and they've had some nagging injuries during the pre-season. It looks to me like the Bucks are a little ahead of the Bulls at this juncture, so I'll grab the opening night points with Milwaukee.

Matt Rivers

For Tuesday take the points with the Blazers out West.

A bunch of factors going our way today for sure on the young and coming boys from Portland. No doubt Kobe and the Lakers are still the better team and being at Staples does not hurt but I really like this Blazer team now with Greg Oden in the mix to go along with Brandon Roy and others.

We saw last season how much opotential Portland has and now with Oden the sky truly is the limit. These guys are young and fresh and confident and ready to rock and roll this season. Today is a great time to catch the Lakers as, for one, Kobe is not 100% after getting injured in that second to last preseason game and I'm not really that sure how Phil Jackson's team will respond after the beatdown in the finals a season ago. Boston absolutely steamrolled what was believed then to be a high flying Lakers team in that series and in the first game since could quite possibly be a little shaken.

This is far from the lock of my life and probably not the greatest value only getting around a touchdown with the inferior Blzers but I love what this team is going to bring to the table and will back them in this spot for sure.

Re: Tuesday Service Plays

Scott Delaney

Play the Cavaliers on the NBA season-opening night, as I remember fondly what the Bulls did to Miami on opening night the season after the Heat won the title. The Heat watched their banner hit the rafters, they got their rings, and then they took a beating.

Call it revenge from the year prior, when the Heat exocised the Bulls from the playoffs, or just call it a plain ol' ass whoopin' ... the dog prevailed.

With Cleveland adding to its scoring punch with Mo Williams joining LeBron James and Delonte West, and the Cavaliers having arguably their best lineup since James joined the team right out of high school, I believe they'll be looking to make a statement against the defending NBA champs.

There will be too much celebration going on, and the focus might still be on June, rather than the here and now in Beantown. Let's take the points and look for a closer game than expected tonight.

CLEVELAND CAVALIERS

Portland Trail Blazers at Los Angeles Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers have won three straight and six of its last seven versus the Portland Trail Blazers at the Staples Center and the home team has won the last five games. But the Lakers are 0-5 ATS in the last five contests at home against the Blazers and the underdog is 22-4 ATS in the last 26 meetings.

Milwaukee Bucks vs. Chicago Bulls
Play:Milwaukee Bucks  +6.5

The Bulls enter the season a banged up bunch as Larry Hughes leads the injured parade as he will miss two to four weeks with a dislocated shoulder. Likely to play but not 100% will be Derrick Rose, Luol Deng, Ben Gordon and Tyrus Thomas. “With all the injuries, it’s hard to get something engraved in stone,” Coach Del Negro said. “We’ve had different mix-and-match lineups out there. On the Bucks, side, they've added Richard Jefferson to an already potent lineup. Milwaukee Bucks were one of the teams voted to be the most improved coming into the season. Scott Skiles takes over in Milwaukee after having been fired by the Bulls last season. He knows the Chicago players better than anyone and he knows how to attack them. TAKE THE BUCKS PLUS THE POINTS!

Vegas Experts

Buffalo at Ohio U

Wrong team favored here. Ohio U demonstrated real lack of offensive ability in their 14-10 at Temple. They ran the ball for just 47 yards and they are turnover prone, particularly QB Boo Jackson. As a team, the Bobcats have turned it over multiple times in all but one game this season. They have just one win vs. FBS competition this year and that was against lowly Kent State. Buffalo, meanwhile, is 6-1 ATS coming off a home win and 7-1 ATS off a SU win period.

Re: Tuesday Service Plays

Andre Gomes

Boston vs Cleveland

As I've referred on my preview, the Cavs are a team which cause problems to Boston due to their similar styles and for some reason they went 9-2 ATS last season against the Celtics. For this game, Boston opened at -7 and it is already at -6 in some shops. Looking at the six home games of the Celtics against the Cavs last season, the lines were the following: -11,5/-10,5/-10/-8,5/-9/-8. So, I think we need to question where the value of this game is. With Boston now at -6, we need to question if Boston is now weaker than last season or if the Cavs are better this season? My answer for these two questions is no. Looking at Boston, the team is basically the same. There could be a tendency for some relax after winning the championship and that's always a factor we need to take into consideration. However, I have a strong evidence that proves that the Celtics are actually more focused than ever.

First of all, the winning dynamic of the team continued in the preseason, where the Celtics went 6-2, but the main factor has to go with what happened in their game against the Rockets, where there was an huge altercation between the players. This is a clear sign that the team is here to compete and that they are taking this season as seriously as last season. If they weren't, why would they lose their head during a pregame season? That wouldn't make any sense at all!

"We are so prepared," Ray Allen said yesterday, "that in one-on-ones, it got to the point where guys get in fights. Nobody ever actually fights, but we have a lot of barking on this team, from everybody, and I think you see that machismo among the guys. Everyone wants to feel like the top dog. Ultimately, we take that and translate it to the team concept, and everything we do helps the team."

"[Garnett] is a lot more intense this year," Paul Pierce said. "I didn't think he could go to another level, but he has. It's infectious and you see it in practice - it's like we never won anything."

Said Garnett, "My intensity rubs off on Paul and Ray a little bit. The young players are getting to understand the intensity we play with for 48 minutes, that when we play at home, we protect that; what practice is - we come here and we don't go long but we go hard."

These statements show how they are as hungry for winning as they were before.

The Cavs also seem to be stronger this season, but they will have a totally new backcourt this season. PG Mo Williams is a great addition, but he will need time to adapt to a totally new system of play. Delonte West will now start in the SG position, in a position he has barely played in Cleveland. Obviously, Lebron is an amazing player and even though he has done some nice games against the Celtics last season during the regular season, we later saw him being very well stopped by the Celtics in the Playoffs.

The Celtics go into this season with the same structure from last season and they have two backup players, who are currently smoking hot: Tony Allen and Eddie House. The C's went 8-2 ATS during the last regular season, in all home games where they weren't favored by more than 7,5 points and today they are just being favored by 6 points. Given the conditions of tonight's game, Boston has great value in here. Take the Celtics.

SINGLE DIME PLAY on Boston Celtics -6

Re: Tuesday Service Plays

John Ryan

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Atlanta Thrashers
Play: Atlanta +112

Ai Simulator 3* graded play on Atlanta– Supporting this graded play is a system that has gone 64-28 making 33.9 units since 1996. Play on home teams against the money line after having lost 4 of their last 5 games and is a terrible team posting a win percentage of <=30% playing a team with a losing record in the first half of the season. Philadelphia is in a horrid role noting they are 29-50 against the money line (-24.6 Units) when playing against a team with a losing record over the last 3 seasons. Philadelphia is just 1-9 against the money line (-8.3 Units) in road games after a close win by 1 goal in their previous game over the last 2 seasons. The Flyers have defeated Atlanta 10 straight times, but those good times will end tonight based on this grading. Flyers allowed five goals in the weekend series after giving up 17 in the previous three games. The coach was most excited about what the wins meant for Martin Biron, who made 29 saves Saturday to improve to 2-3-1 with a 3.95 goals-against average on the season. Despite the 2 wins against rival NJ, this Flyers team is struggling and right now is just not a good enough to warrant being installed as a favorite on the road. Take Atlanta.

Doc's Sports

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Play: Under 195

One thing that not a lot of people realize about the Lakers is that they actually started playing pretty decent defense down the stretch of the NBA season. Everyone thinks of this as an offense-only team but they have one of the best defensive players in the league in Kobe Bryant and they have emphasized defense even more in the offseason, evidently realizing that strong defensive clubs are the ones hoisting the NBA Trophy at the end of the Finals. Portland’s M.O. last season was that they were very solid on defense and not too flashy on offense and we expect them to continue to be a solid under play this season.
