The History

Go for Wand, Meadow Star, My Flag, Silverbulletday, and Storm Flag Flying are just some of the great fillies that have won this event in its 23 year history.

The Best
After finishing fourth in her debut, Dream Empress has won both of her starts with Lasix, including an impressive score in the G1 Alcibiades at Keeneland last out in what was her synthetic surface debut.

Persistently has already developed a touch of seconditis in just a four race career. Her maiden win three starts back had been followed up by a second place finish in the G2 Matron when she was spun eight wide and a tough trip second in the G1 Frizette last out at Belmont. This will be her first start around two turns and over a Polytrack.

Sky Diva posted a mild upset in the Frizette last out under basically a hand ride after breaking her maiden around two turns over a sloppy Delaware Park strip in her debut. Though she hasn’t raced on it, she has trained well over synthetic surfaces in the past.

If there is a filly in here that truly appreciates synthetic surfaces, it’s Stardom Bound. After finishing second in her first two starts, Stardom Bound broke her maiden in the G1 Del Mar Debutante two back before making a breathtaking last to first run to capture the G1 Oak Leaf over this course in her last start.

The Rest
Be Smart tired to be second in the Alcibiades when adding Lasix last out. Black Magic Mama is looking to become the first maiden winner in Breeders’ Cup history. C.S. Silk wired lesser in the G3 Arlington Washington Lassie off a two month layoff in her latest. Dave’s Revenge lit up the board at 37-1 in her Del Mar debut back in late August. Doremifasollatido won the Matron over a good course last out. Evita Argentina won the first two starts of her career before finishing fourth in the Del Mar Debutante. Palacio de Amor tired to second in both the Del Mar Debutante and Oak Leaf. Pursuit of Glory broke her maiden two back over a Polytrack in Ireland. Van Lear Rose has won two of three since adding Lasix, including a G3 at Woodbine.

The Scenario
Be Smart, C.S. Silk and Palacio de Amor should vie for the early lead. Black Magic Mama, Doeremifasollatido, Pursuit of Glory, Sky Diva and Van Lear Rose should follow them. Dave’s Revenge, Dream Empress, Evita Argentina, Persistently and Stardom Bound do their best running late.

The Strategy
The synthetic track aspect especially throws a monkey wrench into a race like this. While the favorites certainly appear to have an edge here, it’s hard to tell which ones will like the surface and the added distance, in some cases. Demand value.

The Bomb
Dave’s Revenge closed well into slow late fractions to win her debut. The pace figures to be hot and heavy in here and at a price of 20-1 or so she should give you something to scream about in the later stages.
