WEDNESDAY PREMIUM SERVICE PLAYS

Ben Burns

NHL ANNIHILATOR!

I'm laying the price with ANAHEIM. The Ducks are off to a slow (0-3) start and they lost at LA last night. They are still a strong team though. Keep in mind that they went an impressive 28-9-1-3 at home last season, finishing with 102 points overall. That was the second best home record in the entire league and the nine home regulation losses were tied (with Detroit) for the fewest. It's also worth noting that they were 6-1-1 in the preseason, so it's not like they just forgot how to win. The Ducks' slow start combined with the fact that they are playing the second of back to back games has kept the price very reasonable here. Neither of those factors really bothers me though. For starters, the slow start should ensure an extremely motivated effort here, as they really don't want to fall to 0-4. Additionally, this is a team which is built for the playoffs and therefore they really don't mind playing back to back games. In fact, if we look back to last season we find that Anaheim was 14-6 the last 20 times that it played the second of back to back games, including a perfect 8-0 mark at home. Look for another big effort from the Ducks tonight as they earn their first victory of the new season. *Annihilator

Stan Sharp

Triple-Dime Bet

LOS +110 vs PHI

Stan notes that Joe Torre has been in spots like this before so he will have his team ready and have them believing that this series is not over. Dodgers get the Job done at home tonight. TAKE LA DODGERS as STAN'S NLCS GAME OF THE YEAR (10-5 last 15) and make them a TRIPLE DIME PLAY

DODGERS

Yesterday on my pick on the Rays over the Red Sox, I referred the importance of the value of a bet and that the momentum on the Playoffs is almost impossible to be stopped, as you saw yesterday with the Red Sox being slaughtered once again at home by the Rays. You could think the same thing will happen today with the Phillies trashing the Dodgers, but it's important to note that we are not talking about the same spots.

Ok, the Phillies won at the Dodger Stadium and it was the first road win of a team in the series (remember the same thing happened with the Rays), but in my opinion that win didn't create the so called "momentum". The Rays won by 9-1 at Boston with the Red Sox's ace Lester on the field, while the Phillies defeated the Dodgers by 7-5, but the truth is that they were trailing by 3-5 in the 8th inning and they only won due to the poor performance of the Dodgers' bullpen. Neither team dominated the game (12 vs 11 in hits and .333 vs .324 in BA, so that's why I say this win didn't create the same momentum the Rays gained on their big win at Boston. The Phillies just won a ballgame. Period.

So, why do we have a team who is 7-1 against the Phillies at home this season as an home dog against the very same Phillies? I know Chad Billingsley had a very poor outing in the game 2 of this series, allowing 8 runs and 8 hits in just 2 innings and everybody is waiting for him to fail once again today, but everybody has bad games and at this time of the season, it's important to study how the pitchers react to bad games. Billingsley just had 5 games this season, where he has allowed 5 runs or more in a single game and do you want to know how he has performed in the following game? He has allowed a single run in each of these 5 games! Impressive! I know he is 0-2 against the Phillies this season, but let's remember those were away games and Billingsley is much better at home: 10-4 with 2.87 ERA and just 1.65 ERA on his last 8 home games. This will be the first time this season he will be an home dog and this will be his 18th home game of the season! And with this game being at the time of the season it is, all the value of this game is on his side.

The Phillies will use their ace Cole Hamels, who was impressive on the two postseason games he has played against the Brewers and the Dodgers. But nobody is unbeatable, just look at Lester! In fact, he has already faced the Dodgers on the road this season and Philadelphia lost that game.

The Phillies have today the chance to advance today to the World Series, but the team will come too relaxed for today's game and they have reasons for that, after all they are 6-0 at home against the Dodgers this season and after this game, they will have two games in a row at home to clinch the series. Just look at what Hamels said about tonight's game:

"I think it would be more exciting to clinch at home in front of the home crowd, but any time you can do it sooner I think makes it a little bit easier on your sense of worry or excitement,"

The key of last game was the Dodgers' bullpen, but as they had a day off to rest, that will help in regaining their confidence. Come to this, we have the Dodgers being a home dog today, in a must win situation for them and the value is completely on their side for this game. Take the Dodgers in here
