Thursday Service Plays

Re: Thursday Service Plays

Ben Burns

New York Islanders at Tampa Bay Lightning
Prediction: Tampa Bay Lightning

The Lightning have plenty of talent. They've also got a new coach in Barry Melrose. Yet, they remain winless after three games. That should ensure that we get an extremely motivated effort from them this evening. The Islanders figure to be the perfect opponent. New York was pounded 7-1 last time out, falling to 1-2. Part of the problem for the Isles is that they've been without their #1 goalie Rick DiPietro. However, even if DiPietro returns, they're still missing defensemen Radek Martinek, Andy Sutton and Chris Campoli. While the Isles are dealing with injuries to their defense corps, the Lightning should get one of their top d-men back this evening. That's because Paul Ranger is expected to make his season debut for Tampa. You may recall that Ranger scored 31 points last season, which was tied for the lead among Tampa defensemen. Kolzig is expected to be in goal for the home team tonight and he sports an excellent 26-10-2 record with two ties and a 2.31 goals-against average over his career vs. the Isles. Overall, the Lightning are 6-1 their last seven home meetings with the Isles and 13-6-1 the last 20. Consider Tampa

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Boston Red Sox
Play: Tampa Bay Rays

Take the Rays to end the Sox season tonight. Nobody is respectiing this team that will be in the World Series by midnight! Anytime you get Kazmir, one of the best arms in the bigs at a great price like this.. JUMP ON IT.. Inflated line off of Dice K's Game 1 performance, and the major fact, if Boston loses, its out. Too much pressure on the defending champs who haven't hit all series. I do not see that changing at all. Rays / Phillies in the World Series...

Priceless Picks

1 Unit on FSU/NC State UNDER 48

Each of the last 4 games these two teams have played have finished under this number, with the highest point total in those games being 44.  Plays Under on all teams where the total is between 42.5 and 49 (NC STATE) - poor offensive team (4.2 to 4.8 Yard per play) against a team with an excellent defense (<=4.2 Yards per play) are 30-8 Under the total the last 10 seasons.  FSU is 12-3 UNDER as a road favorite of 7.5 to 14 points since 1992 and NC State is 14-4 UNDER after 2 or more consecutive straight up losses since 1992.  We'll take the UNDER tonight.

Jeff Alexander Sports

1 Unit on Boston Red Sox -150

We have been burnt with Boston twice in this series, but we won't be a third time as the Red Sox are the kings of elimination games. In fact, Boston is 14-4 when facing elimination in the playoffs since 1997, winning these games by an average of 3.4 runs per game. Boston could not have a better pitcher on the hill for this contest either with Matsuzaka going. The right hander has been sensational all season long and shut out the Rays in game 1. Boston is 24-6 against the money line as a home favorite of -150 to -200 this season and 25-6 in all games this season in which Matsuzaka has pitched this season. We'll bet Boston tonight.

JRtips

BYU vs. TCU

BYU will put its unblemished record on the line against one of the nation's best defenses. The ninth-ranked Cougars look to extend the longest win streak in the country when they visit stingy TCU tonight. After recording two shutouts and outscoring opponents 137-14 over its previous three games, BYU (6-0, 2-0 Mountain West), the Cougars were held to 382 total yards which is more than 70 less than their season average and a season-low point total but beatd New Mexico 21-3 which was their most physical and hard-fought game played this season. The Horned Frogs who are (6-1, 3-0) suffered its only loss Sept. 27 on the road to No. 2 Oklahoma and held five of its seven opponents to seven points or fewer and only the Sooners scored more than 14 points against the Horned Frogs who rank ninth in the nation in scoring defense with 11.4 points allowed per game. TCU is No. 1 in the nation in total defense at 207.4 yards per game. TCU beat Colorado State 13-7 and held the Rams to minus-49 yards rushing in the second half and 11 yards on 28 total carries. TCU will have its work cut out for it against BYU's Max Hall who has 1,852 passing yards and 20 touchdowns. Hall is 17-2 as a starter and completed 22 of 34 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns against New Mexico and has thrown at least two TDs in each of his last eight games.TCU will try to counter BYU's high-octane offense with starting quarterback Andy Dalton back on the field. Dalton hasn't played since suffering a right knee injury against Oklahoma but will return this week. Dalton was 18-for-30 for 165 yards with a touchdown and an interception against BYU on Nov. 8 and Hall went 26-for-44 for 305 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the Cougars 27-22 home victory. The Cougars won their last trip to Fort Worth 31-17 on Sept. 28, 2006, one of the Frogs' four losses in their last 32 home games but tonight this may be teir toughest task to date against a fired up Hornfrog team.

TAKE TCU

Re: Thursday Service Plays

John Ryan

Game: New Jersey Devils at Atlanta Thrashers
Prediction: Atlanta Thrashers

Ai Simulator 3* graded play on Atlanta (NHL) - Supporting this graded play is a series of strong angles. Note that NJ is 4-10 against the money line (-9.2 Units) off a loss by 2 goals or more to a division rival over the last 2 seasons. Atlanta is 18-13 against the money line (+10.3 Units) when playing only their 2nd game in 5 days over the last 2 seasons; 22-19 against the money line (+9.2 Units) after playing a home game over the last 2 seasons. NJ offense looks to be just as poor as it was last season when they were shut out a league high 11 times and ranked 27th in offense with 2.41 GPG. They have scored just 5 goals in their first three games and only three players have recorded goals. Take Atlanta.

Mr A

Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox

Boston's right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka is 9-3 with a 3.34 ERA in 16 home starts this year and the Red Sox have won four of Matsuzaka's last five starts against the Rays. Meanwhile, southpaw Scott Kazmir is 4-6 with a 4.10 ERA in 13 road starts this season. Take the Red Sox.

Boston Red Sox -150

Florida State at NC State

NC State Wolfpack feeble defense will have major problems against Florida State Seminoles balance offense. Look for running back Antone Smith to tear them apart.

Florida State Seminoles -11

BYU at TCU

TCU's potent defense ranked No. 1 in the nation in total defense will be a big challenge for the Cougars high-octane offense led by quarterback Max Hall. BYU has won three of the four meetings versus TCU at Fort Worth.

BYU -1

Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox

Take the Red Sox tonight to stay alive and send this series back to Tropicana Field. Look for Boston's right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka to cool down Tampa Bay bats. Matsuzaka has pitched outstanding at Fenway Park, 9-3 with a 3.34 ERA in 16 starts this year and the Red Sox have won 11 of Matsuzaka's last 13 starts and four of the right-hander's last five against the Rays.

Boston Red Sox -150

Johnny Guild

BYU at TCU

Tonight's Mountain West battle between BYU Cougars and TCU Horned Frogs should be a great fight that could easily go either way. TCU's potent defense will put pressure on BYU's high-power offense and quarterback Max Hall, but keep in mind the unbeaten Cougars' defense is solid, ninth in the nation in tackles. Expect a close contest. The Cougars are allowing 10.2 points per game, while the Frogs 11.4 points a game.

Jimmy Boyd

BYU vs. TCU
Play: Under 45

Three Big Systems go in our favor here. Plays under on all teams where the total is between 42.5 and 49 (BYU) -an excellent offensive team (>=34 PPG) against an excellent defensive team (<=16 PPG), in conference games are 31-10 the last 5 seasons. Plays under on all teams where the total is between 42.5 and 49 (TCU) - in a game involving two excellent defensive teams (<=16 PPG), in conference games are 40-12 the last 5 seasons. TCU is also 6-0 Under in home games where the total is between 42.5 and 49 over the last 2 seasons. We'll play the under.

MIN (-105) vs FLA
Play: 1* Minnesota -105

Minnesota is 6-1-1 SU and 7-1 ATS overall vs Florida since 1996.  Wild are 17-6-2 in their last 25 vs. Southeast.  Wild are 5-2 in their last 7 games following a win.  Wild are 23-10 in their last 33 Thursday games.  Panthers are 2-5 in their last 7 games playing on 3 or more days rest.  Panthers are 15-41-4 in their last 60 vs. Western Conference.  Panthers are 1-5 in their last 6 Thursday games.  Panthers are 3-19-1 in their last 23 vs. Northwest.  We'll recommend a small play on Minnesota tonight!

Re: Thursday Service Plays

Allen Eastman / ACE - ACE

Take TCU (+1) over BYU

We’re playing the correct end of a reverse line movement in this game. Over 80 percent of the action in this game has gone on the Cougars, yet the line is trending toward the home dogs with TCU. Thursday night games this year have given us a slew of upsets and home teams have still won at over a 60-percent rate this fall in these primetime college matchups. The TCU defense is the real deal. They held their last opponent to -49 RUSHING YARDS IN THE SECOND HALF! That type of power up front should be able to slow down Max Hall and Co. TCU is 8-3 ATS in its last 11 games overall and 38-16 ATS in their last 54 home games.

Re: Thursday Service Plays

Michael Cannon

Florida State at NC STATE +11

Take the points with NC State tonight when they host Florida State.

I just don’t trust laying this number with the Seminoles on the road.  Sure they’ve racked up some points recently, but their quarterback play has still been erratic with Christian Ponder, who was just 13 of 31 for 159 yards and two INTs in their 41-39 win over Miami.

NC State has gotten better quarterback play with Russell Wilson and the Wolfpack has done a good job of protecting the football.

Florida State is on an 8-16 ATS slide as a chalk and are just 1-4-1 ATS on Thursday’s and 2-5 ATS after a SU win.  The Wolfpack are on ATS runs of 6-0-1 in this rivalry, and have grabbed the cash in the last three games.  They are also 4-0 ATS after a bye, 4-1 ATS after a SU loss and 6-2 ATS against winning teams.

Too many points for the Seminoles to be laying on the road.  Take the points with NC State as they stay within the number.

Re: Thursday Service Plays

JAKE TIMLIN

Thursday selection is the Boston Red Sox.

Behind the right are of Matsuzaka look for the Red Sox to send the ALCS back to Tampa Bay for a game 6. After all given how dominate Matsuzaka was in game 1 of this series with a no hitter into the seventh inning paving the way for a Boston 2-0 victory it is tough to see any drop off from Dice K tonight. Not when the Red Sox will be desperate to in a must win game and going with Matsuzaka who has been amazing this season going 19-3 with a sub 3 ERA. Meanwhile, thanks to the Rays pitching change of Kazmir who was rocked in game 2 I see Manager Madden kind throwing tonight’s game knowing he has two games at home to win this series and his ace now going in game 6. Flat out we know to never count out the Red Sox as they are more then capable in fighting back in this series and thanks to being at home and having a huge edge on the mound I look for Boston to stay alive as they sent this series back to Tampa Bay with a easy win tonight.

All Boston!

Re: Thursday Service Plays

TONY WESTON

We're coming at it with some strong ACC action as we head to Raleigh, N.C. where we're taking N.C. State over Florida State at home tonight.

Though the Wolfpack is installed as a double-digit underdog, don't be scared away by the points. In its last four lined games N.C. State is 3-1 ATS, including a 2-1 mark ATS at home.

Also consider that the Wolfpack is on a 6-0-1 run ATS in this rivalry, while only going 4-3 SU. In that seven-game stretch N.C. State has been installed as a double-digit dog four times and has cashed in each time.

N.C. State is also 3-0 ATS and 2-1 SU the last three games in this series. The Wolfpack is also 2-0-1 ATS at home their last three meetings against the Seminoles.

Also keep in mind that Florida State is only 8-16 ATS its last 24 games as a favorite and are 1-4-1 ATS their last six Thursday night games.

This game will be closer than most think and the Wolfpack will cover. Take the points and take N.C. State at home tonight.

Re: Thursday Service Plays

WUNDERDOG

New Jersey at Atlanta
Pick: OVER 5

The New Jersey Devils will bring their 2-1 record to Atlanta tonight to face the 1-1-1 Thrashers. The Thrashers were impressive in their opener winning 7-4, but they have struggled since. They are allowing 3.67 goals a game and that has been their problem. New Jersey had been solid behind Martin Broduer, but the net was leaky in his last outing allowing four goals. These teams have a history of lighting up the nets when they play in Atlanta. Over the last three years, which includes the last six times these teams have met, this matchup has produced 48 goals, or an average eight per contest! This one looks like another one ready to produce some scoring, so I'll back the OVER here.

Re: Thursday Service Plays

ROCKBOXSPORTS.COM

2* TCU
2* TCU/BYU UNDER 47

Everybody knows about BYU's offense but TCU's defense is as good or better. Horned Frogs are virtually impossible to run against and have limited 5 of 7 opponents to 7 points or less. Only the vaunted Oklahoma attack has managed to put up more than 14 points against them. BYU is good, but are they Oklahoma good? Certainly not in the last two games where they have struggled with third down conversions and looked fairly sloppy in general. TCU has been no juggernaut on offense themselves, but we think they can manage to score just enough to get a win in what should be a surprisingly low-scoring slugfest.
