Re: NFL: Week 6 Trends

NFL poolies' cheat sheet: Week 6
By SHAWN HARTLEN

Chicago at Atlanta (+3)

Why Bears cover: Are 4-0 ATS in their last four meetings and have won eight of the past nine matchups. Kyle Orton has seven TDs and 801 yards passing in his last three games. NFL rookie rushing leader Matt Forte gets to face the Falcons’ 20th ranked rush defense.

Why Falcons cover: Are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games. QB Matt Ryan and Roddy White (454 yards, 2 TDs) have developed nice chemistry together.

Total (43.5):  Under is 4-0 in the last four meetings.

Oakland at New Orleans (-9)

Why Raiders cover: Had bye week to adjust to new coach Tom Cable who vows to balance the offense. Get Justin Fargas back from injury. Saints are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 home games.

Why Saints cover: Drew Brees has 172 more passing yards than anyone else in the NFL and goes against the Raiders’ 18th ranked pass defense.

Total (47): Over is 5-1 in Raiders’ last six road games and 7-0-1 in Saints’ last eight home games.

Carolina at Tampa Bay (-1)

Why Panthers cover: Are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 meetings and 4-1 ATS in their last five meetings in Tampa Bay. Have won three of the past four matchups. Steve Smith has four 100-yard games in his past six against Tampa Bay. Jake Delhomme is 7-1 vs. the Bucs. Underdog is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 meetings.

Why Buccaneers cover: Are averaging 5.27 yards per rush with combo of Warrick Dunn and Earnest Graham. Held Denver’s potent offense to 333 yards and 16 points last week, over 100 yards less than their normal average.

Total (36.5): Over is 4-0 in the last four meetings in Tampa Bay.

St. Louis at Washington (-13.5)

Total (44): Over is 6-1 in Rams’ last seven games.

Cincinnati at N.Y. Jets (-6)

Why Bengals cover: Jets are giving up 265 passing yards per game, second worst in the NFL. Cincy seems to be better on the road – the team lost its three road games by a combined by 19 points and its two home games by 25.

Why Jets cover: Are 6-0 ATS in their last six games following a bye week. Bengals are 0-4 ATS in their last four games following a bye week.

Total (44.5): Under is 4-1 in Jets’ last five home games and 8-3 in Bengals’ last 11 games overall.

Detroit at Minnesota (-13.5)

Why Lions cover: Rudi Johnson is averaging 5.3 yards per rushing attempt since becoming a Lion. Minnesota is vulnerable through the air, giving up 230 yards per game. Detroit’s exceptional wide receivers could have a big day.

Why Vikings cover: Have won 11 of their past 12 meetings. Favorite is 4-1-1 ATS in their last six meetings. Lions are 0-5-1 ATS in their last six meetings. Both Jon Kitna and backup Dan Orlovsky are banged up. Third stringer Drew Stanton could be forced into action.

Total (44.5): Over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings and 5-2 in the last seven meetings in Minnesota.

Miami at Houston (-3)

Why Dolphins cover: Coming off stunning upset of San Diego where they held the Chargers to 202 net yards and 10 points. “Wildcat” offense is causing confusion for opponents and opening up the running game for Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.

Why Texans cover: Have won all three games against the Dolphins. Rookie Steve Slaton has flourished as the starting running back. Should get starting QB Matt Schaub back from illness. Are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games.

Total (38.5): Under is 4-1 in the last five meetings.

Jacksonville at Denver (-3 1/2)

Why Jaguars cover: Have won last three meetings. Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor should exploit Denver’s 25th ranked rush defense. Underdog is 4-0 ATS in their last four meetings. Denver could be without receiver Eddie Royal (321 yards, 2 TDs) who has an ankle injury.

Why Broncos cover: Brandon Marshall (34 receptions, 423 yards, 3 TDs) has been a beast since returning from his one game suspension. Jaguars are 1-4 ATS in their last five games. Defense came up big last week in a win versus Tampa Bay.

Total (48.5): Over is 6-2 in the last eight meetings and 5-0 in the last five meetings in Denver.

Philadelphia at San Francisco (+4.5)

Why Eagles cover: Have won three of last four meetings. Are 7-1 ATS in their last eight road games. Favorite is 5-2 ATS in their last seven meetings.

Why 49ers cover: Eagles probably without Brian Westbrook who has two fractured ribs.  Correll Buckhalter will start if he can’t go. Frank Gore could have a field day against an Eagles defense that allowed Clinton Portis to gain 158 total yards in Week 5.

Total (42.5): Over is 4-0 in the last four meetings.

Green Bay at Seattle (-1)

Why Packers cover: Are 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 road games. Return of Deion Branch and Bobby Engram didn’t spark the Seattle offense much as the amassed only 187 yards against the Giants last week. Seahawks are 1-4 ATS in their last five games.

Why Seahawks cover:  Are 7-1 ATS in their last eight home games. Sixth ranked rushing attack goes against Packers’ 27th ranked rush defense. Charles Woodson is playing with a broken toe.

Total (46): Over is 4-1 in the last five meetings.

New England at San Diego (-6)

Why Patriots cover: Have won 13 of last 15 meetings. Stayed on the West Coast after last week’s game in San Francisco to avoid the strain of cross-country travel. Underdog is 5-1 ATS in their last six meetings.
