Boston is 13-3-2 UNDER with Jon Lester if their opponent scored 5 or more runs in their last game and they are 6-0-1 UNDER after allowing 5 or more runs in their last game. The Red Sox are 19-9-1 UNDER vs. a team with a win percentage of over 60%. Los Angeles is 38-18-3 UNDER vs. lefty starters and they are 4-0-2 UNDER their last 6 road playoff games. The Angels are 19-7-3 UNDER in the last 29 road starts made by John Lackey and they are 10-3-1 UNDER with Lackey in Game 4 of series. PLAY ON 'UNDER'

SPORTS ADVISORS

Minnesota (1-3 SU and ATS) at New Orleans (2-2, 3-1 ATS)

The Saints porous defense figures to be tested when the Vikings bring the NFL’s second-leading rusher to the Superdome for a Monday night NFC showdown.

New Orleans has the league’s fifth-worst defense this season and has allowed 1,488 total yards, including 122.8 rushing yards per game. The Saints have been outrushed in three of four games this season, with the only exception coming at home last week when they held the Niners to just 312 total yards, including 91 on the ground, in a 31-17 win as four-point favorites.

Drew Brees has been sensational for New Orleans, averaging a league-high 327.3 passing ypg and ranking third in the NFL with a 106.9 passer rating. He threw for 363 yards and three TDs against San Francisco last week.

Minnesota RB Adrian Peterson has the burden of carrying his team’s offense, which struggles in the passing game. Peterson, who rushed 1,341 yards and 12 TDs as a rookie last year, has amassed 420 yards on the ground through four games, including netting 80 in last week’s 30-17 loss in Tennessee, with the Vikings coming up short as three-point ‘dogs.

The Vikings have won three straight matchups (3-0 ATS) with New Orleans going back to 2002, and they are 6-1 in the last seven meetings (5-2 ATS) dating back to 1995. The last time these two met was in 2005 when Minnesota prevailed 33-16 as a four-point road chalk.

Brad Childress’ Vikings are in ATS slumps of 1-6 overall, 2-5 on the highway and 1-4 following a non-cover. Meanwhile, New Orleans is on pointspread slides of 7-16-1 in the Superdome, 3-8 following a spread-cover, 4-9 against teams with a losing record and 0-4 in Week 5.

New Orleans has struggled at home under the Monday night lights, going 1-7 SU (2-6 ATS), including a loss to Tennessee in Week 3 last year, while the Vikings are 10-17 SU (12-14-1 ATS) on the road on Mondays.

For Minnesota, the over is on runs of 8-0 in Week 5 games, 10-3-1 after an ATS loss and 7-3 on artificial turf, but the Vikings have stayed under the total in eight of their last 10 on Monday night. The Saints sport nothing but over trends, including 8-0-1 overall, 14-3-1 against NFC competition, 6-0-1 at home and 6-0-1 after a spread-cover. Also, all five Monday night games this season have soared over the total, and the over is 5-1-1 in the last seven regular-season meetings between these teams.

ATS ADVANTAGE: OVER

A.L. DIVISIONAL PLAYOFFS

Tampa Bay (2-1) at Chicago White Sox (1-2)

The White Sox staved off elimination Sunday and will try to do it again tonight when they send Gavin Floyd (17-8, 3.84 ERA) to the hill at U.S. Cellular Field against the Rays’ Andy Sonnanstine (13-9, 4.38 ERA) in Game 4 of their American League Divisional series.

Chicago closed the series gap to 2-1 with Sunday’s 5-3 victory and will look to send this to a deciding Game 5 in Tampa Bay with a win tonight. The White Sox have won just two of the last nine meetings against the Rays, but they are tough to beat in the Windy City in the postseason, going 6-1 in their last seven home playoff games and 9-2 in their last 11 playoff games anywhere.

Tampa is still on runs of 7-4 overall and 4-2 against teams with a winning record. Meanwhile, Chicago is just 4-7 in its last 11 overall, but the White Sox are on positive streaks of 43-18 at home and 40-14 at home against teams with a losing road record.

Sonnanstine hasn’t recorded a win since Aug. 18, spanning seven games with three losses and four no-decisions. He last pitched on Sept. 26 in Detroit when he allowed five runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings of a 6-4 loss. He faced Chicago on Aug. 24 and gave up four runs on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings and got a no-decision in a 6-5 loss. For his career against the ChiSox, Sonnanstine is 1-0 with a 2.96 ERA in four starts spanning 27 1/3 innings.

Floyd, who has never faced the Rays, he finished the regular season strong, going 5-2 with two no-decisions in his last nine starts. He pitched a critical makeup game against the Tigers a week ago tonight, allowing two runs (one earned) in six innings of an 8-2 victory that got the White Sox into a playoff game against the Twins the following day. Floyd was 10-3 with a 3.55 ERA in 17 starts in the Windy City this season, including one complete game.

This is the first postseason appearance for both Floyd and Sonnanstine.

For the Rays, the over is on runs of 5-2 on the road, 6-3 overall and 11-5 against A.L. Central squads. Meanwhile, the under is 23-8-2 in Chicago’s last 33 against the A.L. East and 6-2 in its last eight Monday games, but the over is on a 6-3 run for the White Sox in the playoffs.

Finally, the under is 14-4 in the last 18 series meetings between these clubs, including Sunday’s game that barely stayed under the 8½ total.

ATS ADVANTAGE: CHICAGO WHITE SOX

L.A. Angels (1-2) at Boston (2-1)

The Angels finally broke through with a playoff win over the Red Sox on Saturday night and now will try to even things up when they send ace John Lackey (12-5, 3.75) to the mound a Fenway Park to face Boston southpaw Jon Lester (16-6, 3.21) in a Game 1 rematch.

After 11 straight postseason losses to Boston, the Angels scored a 5-4, 12-inning victory at Fenway Park on Sunday night. Los Angeles catcher Mike Napoli had a big night with two homers and three runs scored, including the game-winner.

Los Angeles took eight of nine from the Red Sox in the regular season and are now 1-11 in the last 12 playoff contest against them. The Angels have won six straight at Fenway this year and they’re on further hot streaks of 8-1 on the highway and 23-10 against the A.L. East. Meanwhile, Boston is 63-27 in its last 90 at Fenway, 21-7 in its last 28 postseason contests and 7-2 in its last nine divisional playoff home games.

Lackey was the loser in Game 1 of this series Wednesday, giving up two runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings as the Red Sox earned the 4-1 win. Leading 1-0 in the sixth inning, Lackey gave up a two-run homer to Jason Bay that turned the game around. He is now 3-8 with a 5.38 ERA in 15 career starts (against Boston, and L.A. is 3-12 in those outings (0-2 in the playoffs). However, Lackey did pitch well at Fenway back in late July, taking a no-hitter into the ninth inning and finishing with a complete-game two-hitter in a 6-2 Angels’ win.

Lester was magnificent in the opening game of this series, giving up one unearned run on six hits in seven innings and striking out seven. Prior to that effort, Lester had been 1-1 with a 7.78 ERA in four career regular-season starts against the Angels. Also, Lester was spectacular at Fenway this season, going 11-1 with a 2.49 ERA in 17 starts, with Boston winning 15 of those contests.

The Angels are on over streaks of 6-2-1 overall and 6-2-1 on the road against teams with a winning record, but the under is 4-0-2 in their last six road playoff games. Meanwhile, Boston is has stayed under at a 4-2-1 clip in its last seven at home and the under is 28-11-5 in its last 44 on Mondays.

Finally, the over is 11-5-3 in the last 19 Angels-Red Sox battles in Boston (regular season and postseason), with the teams pushing the total in Sunday’s 5-4 contest.

ATS ADVANTAGE: BOSTON

Scott Spreitzer

Angels at Red Sox
Play: Angels

I had the Angels and we were rewarded with a huge underdog winner. The Halos finally broke through with a postseason win over Boston after dropping 11 straight to the Sox. There hasn't been much wrong with the Angels' overall hitting in this series. They did, however, struggle in the clutch when they had a chance to do some damage with runners on base. That problem ended last night with the clutch game-winning hit by Erick Aybar. The Angels dropped their game one shot against Jon Lester. But they own huge numbers against the righty in his career. Lester had been smacked for a 7.78 ERA, 2.14 WHIP, and .393 BAA in four starts against LAA before this postseason. And let's not forget the Angels were the league's best road team, going 50-31 this season. They went 34-16 against southpaws on the season, including 12-6 in road night games where they scored 5.2 runs per game. I'll ride the Angels for the second straight night as they look to send the series back to Anaheim. The Angels are the play on Monday.

Vikings (+3) over SAINTS

Minnesota's ground game is as healthy as ever, with Adrian Peterson gobbling up 420 yards, second best in the NFL. Now it's just a matter of getting Gus Frerotte a few more reps. Actually, Frerotte was pretty solid in his first start for the Vikes, completing 25 of 43 for 266 yards, and if they can cut down on the turnovers (four Sunday), the Purple People should be able to squeeze out a W in the Superdome.

Re: Monday Service Plays

JEFF BENTON

For Monday’s free play, we’ll look for the Rays to close out their divisional series against the White Sox with a victory at Chicago.

If you ask me, the White Sox only delayed the inevitable with yesterday’s 5-3 victory, Just watching these teams play, it’s so obvious that Tampa Bay is the more complete ballclub, able to beat you in a variety of different ways, be it on the mound or at the dish. On the other hand, Chicago’s formula for success is limited to sitting back and waiting for a three-run homer. Well, I don’t think that’s going to work today against Rays right-hander Andy Sonnanstine, who in four career starts against Chicago has given up just two long flies in 27 1/3 innings. Overall, Sonnanstine has a 2.96 ERA against the White Sox and an impressive 1.10 WHIP, allowing just 28 hits and two walks (with 14 strikeouts) in those 27 1/3 innings.

As for Chicago starter Gavin Floyd, he’s been solid at home this year, no question about it. But he’s yet to face this dynamic Tampa offense, which features speed (Crawford, Iwamura, Upton) and power (Upton, Pena, Longoria), and most of all, patience. The Rays will make Floyd work for everything he gets, and I highly doubt this lineup will be as inefficient in this one as it was Sunday, when the Rays left nine runners on base.

Finally, Tampa Bay has had a ton of success with Sonnanstine on the hill this year, winning 20 of his 32 starts, and despite yesterday’s setback, the Rays are still 7-2 in the last nine meetings with the White Sox this year. Bottom line: The oddsmakers are telling us something with this short line, and we’re going to listen to them. The young Rays get it done today and move on to their first ALCS.

NEW ORLEANS -3 ***PLAY OF THE DAY***
NEW ORLEANS OVER 46 -120

I am usually a fan of the dog but tonight I'm going to lay the small number with the Monday night home team. The Saints catch the Vikings in the 2nd game of a B2B road swing and I love going against certain teams in this spot. Additionally, the Saints are coming off a SU/ATS win at home last week and teams in this spot have historically done well going a PERFECT 17-0 SU and ATS since 1990 as a home fave of 3 points or less, winning SU by an average of 14 pts/gm!! When the home team is coming off a SU/ATS home win last week and has another home game on deck those teams are a PERFECT 11-0 SU and ATS since 1990 and won SU by an average of 15 pts/gm. Furthermore, certain MNF non-division home teams are a PERFECT 21-0 SU and ATS since 1983 when they are facing an opponent who is coming off a SU loss of 7 or more points and curshed their opponents by an average of 18 pts/gm and only 3 times did the home team fail to win by more than double digits!! Meanwhile, certain non-division road teams are a PERFECT 0-25 SU and ATS when coming off a SU road loss and playing an opponent off a SU win and those teams lost by an average of more than 14 pts/gm!! If history holds true the Saints should win by 2 TDs or more!! I AM TAKING NEW ORLEANS AS MY PLAY OF THE DAY!!

GINA

Los Angeles Angels at Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox will send Jon Lester to the hill to get the job done. The southpaw is 5-1 with a 4.60 ERA in 14 starts at Fenway Park and the Red Sox have won 22 of Lester's last 26 starts at home. He allowed just one unearned run in Boston's 4-1 victory in Game 1 and is 1-1 with a 7.78 ERA in four regular-season career outings versus Boston. Meanwhile, Los Angeles has dropped five of  John Lackey last 6 starts and 12 of the his last 15 versus the Red Sox., 2-7 in Lackey's last 9 against them on the road. The Angels kept their hopes alive with a 12 inning, 5-4 victory in Game 3 for their six straight win at Fenway Park, but have struggle in playoff games, 1-9 in their last 10. Los Angeles will have a difficult undertaking against Boston’s lefty Jon Lester tonight. Go with the Red Sox at Fenway Park to reach the American League Championship Series.

Re: Monday Service Plays

Mr A

Tampa Bay Rays at Chicago White Sox

The Rays have won seven of the last 9 meetings, but are just 1-4 in their last 5 road games and 6-15 in the last 21 in Chicago. Chicago will send Gavin Floyd to the mound. The right-hander has never faced Tampa Bay, but has performed well at U.S. Cellular Field, 10-3 at home this year and the White Sox are 10-4 in his last 14 starts. Tampa Bay counters with Andy Sonnanstine. The Rays are 2-6 in the right-hander’s last 8 starts away from home. Sonnanstine is 1-0 with a 2.96 ERA in four career starts against the Sox.

Take the White Sox at home to even the series at 2-2 and back to Tropicana Field for a Game 5.

Chicago White Sox -125

Minnesota Vikings at New Orleans Saints

Drew Brees has played great and will be effective, but the Vikings will be successful running the ball against a Saints' defense that can't stop the run, keeping Brees and his crew on the sidelined and wearing them down. Take the Vikes in a close fight. Minnesota has won seven of the last eight meetings versus New Orleans, 4-1 ATS in its last five.

Johnny Guild

Minnesota Vikings at New Orleans Saints

New Orleans has home advantage in a Monday night clash, but hasn’t been lucrative with a record of 1-7 straight-up and 2-6 against the spread in Monday night games. However, the Saints offense led by quarterback Drew Brees, who is presently the league's top quarterback, should be able to score easily against the Vikings miserable defense. I do believe this will be a close battle and New Orleans will have their hands full stopping running back Adrian Peterson. But, without any hesitation I will back the Saints with Drew Brees then the Vikings’ with Gus Frerotte at the helm.  In all probability, Brees and his crew will put on a show tonight in the Superdome. This is definitely not a smart contest to lay a wager, but its Monday night Football. Go easy!

Re: Monday Service Plays

Michael Cannon

LA Angels +130 at BOSTON

Not only did I deliver the 3-0 sweep for my paying clients yesterday, part of a 7-1 weekend which netted +104.50 dimes of profit, but I delivered the 2-0 sweep on my free plays yesterday with a blowout winner on the Cardinals and an outright winner on the Steelers!

Let’s take the Angels for the road win over the Red Sox tonight.

Same pitching matchup as Game One, but I like John Lackey to redeem himself on the road.

The right-hander was cruising until Jason Bay clobbered a 2-run homerun in the 6th inning, and the Red Sox went on to win, 4-1.

Boston will send Jon Lester to the hill and he has been masterful in two postseason starts in his career, pitching 12 2-3 innings without allowing an earned run.

But I think that win last night by the Angels got the monkey off their backs, and they’re going to roll forward tonight with some newfound confidence and momentum.

Take the Angels as they grab the road win.

Elite Sports Information

Minnesota +3 over New Orleans

Vikings own a +1.1 ypplay defensive advantage in this one, an attractive quality for any underdog. It's not like the number is a fluke either as they have played a very tough schedule thus far at Green Bay, at Tennessee, Indianapolis, and Carolina. They also fit into an awesome 51-15-3 Game 5 angle, involving 1-3 teams off of a SU loss.Minnesota welcomes back Pro Bowl LT Bryant Mckinnie from suspension which should bolster an already strong offensive line. They play a physical brand of football, and teams that are strong on both lines always merit a look when taking points in this league.New Orleans by only 1.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Chicago White Sox Chicago
Play: White Sox -123

I'm going to go with the White Sox today over the Rays to take this to Game 5. Chicago has been great all year at home, going 54-28. This team has now won four in a row with their season on the line at US Cellular, so they won't be tight today taking on Tampa. Gavin Floyd pitched a gem against Tigers last Monday with a lose and go home atmosphere, and he's a better man to send out there than Sonnanstine for the Rays, who went 0-3 in his last 7 starts.
