WEDNESDAY SERVICE PLAYS

Re: WEDNESDAY SERVICE PLAYS

JEFF HOCHMAN 10* MLB Over/Under Game of Month

Detroit Tigers vs. Kansas City Royals
Pick: Total: 9.5/-115 Under

My line on this O/U was 9o. These two teams finished late after a long rain delay and now play an early Day game. Both starting pitchers are coming off sub-par performances and usually pitch very well after poor starts. Both teams have not seen much of the opposing starter. Winds Blowing from Center to Home today at 5-10 MPH could only help knock some balls down

STEVE JANUS

CINCINNATI REDS

The Reds are hot at home and hot when they are favored. They are 6-2 in their last 8 when favored at home and 31-13 in their last 44 games as favorites regardless of the venue. Cincinnati's starter, Bronson Arroyo, has also been impressive at home. The Reds are on a 10-2 run when he pitches as a favorite in Cincinnati. San Diego is just 3-14 in their last 17 games against a right-handed starter and they've won only 1 of their last 6 games on the road against a team with a winning record.

Re: WEDNESDAY SERVICE PLAYS

JOHN FINA

Washington/San Francisco Over 9

Today we expect a high-scoring game as the Washington Nationals do battle with the San Francisco Giants. One reason why we expect a high-scoring game is because both these teams will be sending to the mound struggling starting pitchers. This says it all... The Washington Nationals Starting Pitcher (Colin Balester) has a 5.87 ERA in his last 3 starts, while San Francisco Giants Starting Pitcher (Kevin Correia) has a 7.20 ERA in his last 3 starts. As you can see, both these starting pitchers have been struggling as of late. To say the least, we should see many runs scored today! Take the Washington Nationals/San Francisco Giants Over 9!

Re: WEDNESDAY SERVICE PLAYS

TONY WESTON

We're switching gears a little here and heading back to the American League and looking at some AL East action between the Blue Jays and Orioles. Simply, tonight go with Baltimore at home.

The key difference in tonight?s game will be the pitching of scheduled Orioles pitcher Jeremy Guthrie, who is 6-7 with a 3.60 ERA this season. Guthrie is 3-3 with a 3.74 ERA at home, while Baltimore is 7-3 in his 10 home starts.

Also, Guthrie is 4-1 his last eight starts, while Baltimore is 6-3 in his last nine starts overall. Keep in mind that Guthrie has faced Toronto twice this year and has allowed only two earned runs in 14 innings of work as Baltimore split those two games.

Pencil in Guthrie as your starting pitcher and go with the Orioles at home tonight.

TONY MATHEWS

Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees
Selection: Minnesota/New York Under 9.5

The Minnesota Twins will use starting pitcher Glen Perkins. Glen Perkins has been pitching very well as of late. In fact, Glen Perkins has a 2.29 ERA in his last 3 starts. We see Glen Perkins pitching another great game today.

The New York Yankees will use starting pitcher Mike Mussina. Mike Mussina has also been pitching very well as of late. In fact, Mike Mussina has a 1.50 ERA in his last 3 starts. We see Mike Mussina pitching another great game today.

The bottom line, we should see a low-scoring game today!

Take the Minnesota Twins/New York Yankees Under 9.5

3* on New York Mets -125

Following a terrible blown save against the Phillies last night, the Mets will respond in a big way Wednesday. John Maine’s favorite opponent is Philadelphia as you can see by his career numbers against them. Maine is 4-0 with a 2.36 ERA in eight career starts against the Phillies. He is just the guy that can turn it around for New York tonight. Brett Myers is 0-1 with an 8.62 ERA over his last 3 starts for the Phillies. The Phillies are just 1-8 in Myers’ nine road starts this season. Bet New York at home.

Jeff Alexander Sports

1 Unit on KC Royals +111

The Royals have done their best hitting against lefty starters this season, winning their last 5 home games against a southpaw starter. The Royals are 8-1 in their last 9 games vs. a left-handed starter period. The Tigers are only 1-6 in the last 7 meetings, and not surprisingly, are 0-4 in Rogers' last 4 starts vs. the Royals. The Tigers are just 2-8 in Rogers' last 10 starts vs. the American League Central. Bet the Royals in this great home dog spot.

Re: WEDNESDAY SERVICE PLAYS

Big Al McMordie

Cleveland v Angels
Pick: Under 8

At 3:35pm our selection is on the Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Angels 'under' the total. This game will mark the thirteenth straight contest between these two teams that has been played in Anaheim. While this is a bit unusual, it has not always been a bad thing for Cleveland as the series has been very even during this time, with the Angels having only a two-game advantage, 7-5. Los Angeles has to be feeling pretty good after its three-game sweep of its biggest American League rivals, the Boston Red Sox, to begin the post-All-Star second half. The Angels now have the best record in the Majors, and are the first team in baseball to reach 60 wins this season. With its trade of ace CC Sabathia, Cleveland has effectively thrown in the towel for the season, but oddly enough, it finds itself riding a hot streak having gone 7-4 in its last eleven games. Ace John Lackey gets the start for the Angels and the 'under' is 6-2 in Lackey's last eight starts vs. Cleveland, and 11-3 in the last fourteen games between these two teams overall. Take the 'under'.

VEGAS EXPERTS

New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies

If we were managing the Phillies, this is not the spot where we would have elected to bring back Brett Myers from reassignment. Philly has lost 13 of his 17 starts to begin with, including 8 of 9 on the road. Myers' ERA away from home is a terrible 8.18 and while Mets hurler John Maine has looked far from great himself recently, he is 4-0 lifetime with a 2.36 ERA vs. the Phills.

Re: WEDNESDAY SERVICE PLAYS

Robert Ross

Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies
Prediction: Los Angeles Dodgers

Dodgers ought to rebound off last night's one-sided loss. They are 60-33 against the money line when playing against a team with a losing record in the second half of the season over the last 3 seasons while Rockies Rusch is 13-32 against the money line vs. poor power teams - averaging 0.9 or less HR's/game since 1997. (Team's Record) Take L.A.!

Terron Chapman

New York Liberty vs. Washington Mystics
Play: New York Liberty

The Mystics will host the Liberty this morning in a WNBA matchup with an unusual start time of 11:30 a.m. est. The Mystics responded to the firing of their coach with a resounding win over the Seattle Storm 89-57 in their last outing and now must turn around and prepare for one of the better teams the WNBA has to offer. The Liberty are coming off of a disappointing 71-55 home loss to the Fever but have responded well in this position as they are 8-1 ats this season when following a loss in their previous game. The home team has dominated the series recently winning nine of the last ten meetings with the Liberty owning the lone road win. The Mystics haven't handled success well this year and are just 0-4 ats in their last 4 games following a SU win. The Liberty are 7-1 ats the last 8 meetings. Play on the New York Liberty for 1 unit.

Re: WEDNESDAY SERVICE PLAYS

Sportsbettingstats

Atlanta Braves at Florida Marlins

In yesterdays game between these two teams the Marlins blanked the Braves 4-0. The Marlins are 7-3 in their last 10 games and are only 1 game back of the Philadelphia Phillies in the tight National League West. The Braves are 5-5 in their last 10 games and even though they are under .500 they are only 7 games back of the Phillies. Taking the mound for the Braves is Tim Hudson (10-7, 3.31 ERA), who has been a bright spot for the Braves this season and in his last start went 6 innings giving up 5 runs in a win. In yesterdays loss to the Marlins the Braves scored 0 runs on only 1 hit. Taking the mound for the Marlins is Ricky Nolasco (10-5 3.78 ERA), who has been a pleasant surprise for the Marlins and in his last start went 7 innings and gave up 4 earned runs in a loss. In last nights win the Marlins scored 4 runs on 4 hits and left 5 men on base.

Staff Pick: In the pitching match up in this game the advantage is a slight one for the Braves, as Hudson is a solid starter and has great stuff. However, Hudson has been tagged for at least 5 runs in 3 of his last 6 starts, The Marlins are staying in the NL East race and the Braves need to start to make their push now if they hope to make the playoffs. The Marlins rank 6th in the NL in runs scored (476) while the Braves rank 10th (440). The Marlins can hurt you with the long ball, as they lead the majors in home runs (140). The Marlins are rolling and look to win 4 straight series' with a win tonight. Florida has a penchant for the come from behind victory, as they have 9 walk off wins in 2008. Florida has a dynamic offense, but their pitching is what they need to improve, as they rank 14th in the NL in team ERA (4.57). After a horrendous start of the season on the road the Braves have begun to win away from Atlanta, but are still only 16-33 on the road this season. The Marlins are 29-22 at home this year. Tim Hudson will have a good start and the Braves offense will come alive in this game. The Braves look to move up in the NL East and it will start tonight as the Braves will take advantage of their Ace on the mound and their offense will score just enough runs to win.

Braves 6 Marlins 3

Re: WEDNESDAY SERVICE PLAYS

GINA

Toronto Blue Jays at Baltimore Orioles

Toronto has won five of the last six versus Baltimore and will start A.J. Burnett . The right-hander is 2-1 with a 4.35 ERA in his last three starts, but went 0-4 with a 5.51 ERA in his last five road starts. Burnett has been successful against the Orioles, 6-1 with a 5.26 ERA in eight career starts versus Baltimore, 1-1 with a 13.97 ERA in two starts this season. Baltimore counters with Jeremy Guthrie. The right-hander is 2-0 with a 4.19 ERA in his last three starts and is 1-0 with a 2.65 ERA in five career starts against the Blue Jays.

Go with the Blue Jays to grab another win at Camden Yards in Baltimore. Toronto has won five of Burnett’s last 6 starts against the Orioles.
