THURSDAY SERVICE PLAYS

Re: THURSDAY SERVICE PLAYS

TONY MATHEWS

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Washington Nationals
Selection: Arizona/Washington Over 7.5

The Arizona Diamondbacks will use starting pitcher Dan Haren. Dan Haren has been pitching very well this season. In fact, Dan Haren has a 2.83 ERA on the season. In addition, Dan Haren has a 0.86 ERA in his last 3 starts. We see Dan Haren giving up very few hits and runs today.

The Washington Nationals will use starting pitcher Jason Bergmann. Jason Bergmann has been pitching very good as of late. In fact, Jason Bergmann has a 1.80 ERA in his last 3 starts. We see Jason Bergmann also giving up very few hits and runs today.

The Under is 15-6 in the last 21 meetings between these teams, and we expect to see another low-scoring game today.

Take the Arizona Diamondbacks/Washington Nationals Over 7.5

STEVE JANUS

FLORIDA MARLINS

There is definately a risk here, but the reward is well worth it. Florida's starter is coming of a long stint on the DL to recover from surgery, but be for the injury he showed promise winning 5 of 7 starts when the Marlins were an underdog. The Marlins are still just 1.5 games behind the Phillies in the NL East, a division that the Dodgers have struggled against, particularly Chan Ho Park, who is just 1-4 in his last 5 meetings against that division.

Re: THURSDAY SERVICE PLAYS

JOHN FINA

Selection: Minnesota Twins

Today the Minnesota Twins will be on the road as they take on the Detroit Tigers. We will side with the Minnesota Twins! One reason why we will side with the Minnesota Twins is because they will be sending to the mound the starting pitcher who has been pitching a lot better as of late. This says it all... The Minnesota Twins Starting Pitcher (Kevin Slowey) has a 2.14 ERA in his last 3 starts, while Detroit Tigers Starting Pitcher (Kenny Rogers) has a 5.68 ERA in his last 3 starts. As you can see, the Minnesota Twins will be sending to the mound the much better starting pitcher. In addition, the Minnesota Twins have proven they can beat the Detroit Tigers. In fact, the Minnesota Twins are 7-2 in their last 9 meetings against the Detroit Tigers. We see the Minnesota Twins getting another win tonight! Take the Minnesota Twins

Re: THURSDAY SERVICE PLAYS

Oddswiz

Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals
Play: Chicago White Sox

Those of you that have been following alone here on these pages know by now that I'm not too high on the Royals a fully expect them to end up right where they are now....in the basement. So here we get a team in the White Sox, in first place, having won 4 in a row, 8 of 10, 11 of 13, and 5 straight against the Royals, at a very fair price of as low as -106 at one book.

The Royals on the other hand have lost 2 in a row, 7 of 10, 9 of 12 and 4 straight at home. The pitching matchup favors us as well. While Greinke has played very well for the Royals this year, especially at home, the Chisox seem to have his number. He is 2-7 with a 4.81 in 14 games against the Chisox. Buehrle goes for the Chisox and he's 16-6 against the Royals and the Chisox have won 12 of the last 14 games he has started against them.

It's a game of numbers folks. At -106 or so, you don't have to do much better than 50/50 in this particular game to show a profit over the long haul. If this exact game were played 1000 times, do you think each team would win 500? Past history would indicate otherwise. Sox please.

Re: THURSDAY SERVICE PLAYS

Scott Spreitzer

Tampa Bay Rays at Cleveland Indians

I'm playing the visiting Tampa Bay Rays to get back into the win column at Cleveland's expense. Last night's collapse will be another tough situation for the disappointing Tribe to overcome. The pen got absolutely abused after a decent start by Byrd. Now, on a 10-game losing streak, Cleveland will face a team that's in an in-season, perfect situation. The Rays are 6-0 this season when Sonnanstine starts a night game away from home. He's sporting a strong 3.32 ERA along the way. Yet, with all of that to take in, the Indians were still installed as the favorite! I'll take the value with the Tampa Bay Rays even if they move to the fave by first-pitch.

Play on: Tampa Bay

Vegas Experts

Florida Marlins at Los Angeles Dodgers

Chan Ho Park has looked good all season, whether it be as as starter or coming out of the bullpen. However, it's the starter's role that he's truly excelled in, posting an ERA of 1.29 in his first four outings. At home, his ERA is even lower (0.82) as he's allowed just 1 ER in 11 innings of work. He blanked the Angels, MLB's best road team, 6-0 here, so he should have little trouble with a Marlins team that swept earlier this year in Miami.

Tom Freese

Chicago White Sox at Kansas City Royals
Prediction: Kansas City Royals

Kansas City is 6-1 in the last 7 home starts made by Zach Greinke at home and they are 5-0 their last 5 games vs. lefty starters. Greinke is 6-2 if he had a quality start in his last outing and he is in Awesome KW form with a 11-1 strikeout to walk in his last 3 starts. Chicago starter Mark Buehrle is just 4-13 in his last 17 July starts and the White Sox are just 5-13 the last 18 starts made by Buehrle on the road if the Total was 7.0 to 8.5. The Pale Hose are 2-6 the last 8 road starts made by Buehrle. PLAY ON KANSAS CITY

BRIAN MARSHALL

Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers
Play On: Los Angeles Angels -155

The Los Angeles Angels will be lead by starting pitcher John Lackey. John Lackey has pitched very well this season. In fact, John Lackey has a 1.93 ERA on the season. We see John Lackey pitching another great game today.

The Texas Rangers will be lead by starting pitcher Scott Feldman. Scott Feldman has struggled this season. In fact, Scott Feldman has a 4.39 ERA on the season. We see Scott Feldman having another bad game today.

To say the least, the Los Angeles Angels should be able to beat the Texas Rangers tonight!

Take the Los Angeles Angels

Re: THURSDAY SERVICE PLAYS

MATT RIVERS

Thursday take Tampa Bay at the Jake.

My oh my have times changed Just a few months ago, if not weeks, today's number would have seemed ridiculous. How could the young and talented, but still far from being good Rays, not be getting a handsome price back like this on the road in Cleveland against the big bad Indians. I mean the Tribe went to the AL Championship series last year, had a 3-1 lead before blowing it in the end and were ready to make another run this season. That could not be any more wrong right now as Eric Wedge' team is a joke and has quit.

CC Sabathia was just traded away and then came only a few days after the team released their former closer in Joe Borowski. Prior to that both Travis Hafner and Victor Martinez were injured and all in all the Indians are a total mess and a team that even at home should not be winning many games in the near future as they have fallen into the abyss. Obviously Grady Sizemore has become a superstar and there are a few other bats with Jhonny Perralta and Ryan Garko but the Tribe are a disaster right now and should not beat the first place Rays.

I'm not so sure that Joe Maddon's team will win the AL East in the end with the World Champion Sox still around and ready to get Big Papi back in the mix but these guys are legit with stars in Crawford, Pena and possibly Longoria and today should tack on another W to their ledger.

Andy Sonnanstine has had a breakthrough season and should be fine once more here. His mound opponent is a pretty good lefty in Aaron Laffey who has been very very good at home but when push comes to shove I'll back these pesky Rays here to continue Cleveland's misery.

Re: THURSDAY SERVICE PLAYS

SPORTSLOCKS

Florida Marlins vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Florida Marlins will send 24 year old right hander Josh Johnson. Johnson is just coming off Tommy John surgery recently. Johnson has a record of 0-0 on the season with a 0.00 ERA, he will be making his first start of the season. The Los Angeles Dodgers will send veteran right hander Chan Ho Park to the mound this evening. Park has a record of 4-2 on the season with a low 2.36 earned run average. At home this season in 2 games started he has a record of 2-0 with an impressive 0.62 ERA. At home this season opposing batters are batting just .194 against Park this season. With Johnsons inexperience this season and him coming off surgery where going to have to lean towards the Dodgers. Park is pitching very well as a starter and has been great at home.

LOCK = Los Angeles Dodgers -155

Re: THURSDAY SERVICE PLAYS

Nick "BookieKiller" Parsons

CLE (-114) vs TAM

CLEVELAND Yes, the Indians have lost ten straight games but what are the odds of that streak reaching eleven? Not too good! Cleveland hasnt had a losing streak of more than ten games in the last 77 years! The Indians just wrapped up a winless road trip by blowing a late 6-1 lead at Detroit last night and that means its bounce back time tonight at home for the Tribe. Cleveland is a respectable .500 club at home as most of their trouble has come on the road. As for the Rays, as strong as theyve been this season they still have not proven to be a great road club. In fact, Tampa Bay is currently two games under .500 when away from home so far this season. Note that the Rays dont exactly come into this series hot. Tampa Bay has actually lost three straight games as they suffered an extra inning loss at Yankee Stadium yesterday to wrap up their visit to the Bronx. Now its potential letdown time for the Rays as, after dealing with the division rival Yanks, they now face a last place club from the AL Central. The Rays are just 2 for 28 with men in scoring position during their three game losing streak and they wont be helped by facing Aaron Laffey of the Indians tonight. Thats because the Rays have never faced the Cleveland southpaw and Tampa Bay also hits 14 points less versus lefties than they do against righties. Also, the Rays hit 16 points less on the road in comparison with at home. Laffey is just 4-5 on the season but note that all four of those wins have come at home where he has a 2.15 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .223 against Laffey at Progressive Field this season! Unlike Laffey, Andy Sonnanstine of the Rays has been quite hittable this season. In spite of a 10-3 record and a respectable 4.31 ERA, note that Sonnanstine has been hit at a .293 clip this season! Keep in mind that Sonnanstine was also hit at a .293 clip last season, in his rookie year, and that netted him a 6-10 mark. So, as you can see, the Rays right-hander has easily been one of the more fortunate pitchers in the league this season. His stuff is not necessarily worthy of being a ten win pitcher at this point in the 2008 season. Note that Sonnanstine did lose his only career start against the Indians and that came last season. The Indians offense has scored at least five runs in three of their last six games and, with Laffey on the mound, it shouldnt take much to notch this home win. Being back at Progressive Field makes all the difference in the world for the Indians and that is why this one earns rare BookieKiller status! Best of luck Nick The BookieKiller Parsons

Re: THURSDAY SERVICE PLAYS

VERNON CROY

Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics
Pick: Under 8.5/-110

Play Title: 20 Unit MLB Afternoon

20 Units Under 8.5/-110

Take the Under, This pick falls into one of my top MLB systems and the O/U is 12-22 for Seattle when playing against a team with a winning record this season. The O/U is 0-5-1 in Oakland's last 6 games while 0-4 in Seattle's last 4 games and both of these teams are really struggling to hit the ball lately. Seattle is hitting just .225 as a team over their last 7 games while averaging just 2.7 rpg and Oakland is hitting just .237 as a team while averaging just 3.4 rpg over their last 7 games played. Both of these starters have pitched solid this season and I look for this game to be a pitchers dual Thursday afternoon. R.A. Dickey (2-4, 4.36 ERA) has pitched solid on the road this season with an ERA of just 3.46 and he has also pitched solid over his last 3 starts with an ERA of just 1.86 while lasting an average of 6.4 innings per start. Greg Smith (5-7, 3.62 ERA) has pitched solid at home this season with an ERA of just 3.30 over 7 starts and I look for him to have a solid outing against the Mariners bats that have been slumping lately. Take the Under as my MLB Total of the Week.
