Wednesday Service Plays

Re: Wednesday Service Plays

Nick Parsons NHL Pick for Wednesday!

Play ON Dallas Stars $ line (-) vs San Jose

This one has the looks of simply being over. The Sharks can say what they want about not giving up and about bouncing back tonight but this is simply a brutal situation for them. Last night, San Jose lost to the Stars in overtime for the 2nd time in 3 games in this series. This puts the Sharks one step closer to elimination and having to play the second night of a back to back on the road certainly wont help matters for the Sharks. Worst of all is that San Jose was outshot in Game Three. After outshooting the Stars in both games in San Jose, the Sharks came up well short last night in Dallas and thats a bad sign of what Game Four could bring tonight! The Stars are now 7-2 in the playoffs and the Sharks sit at 4-6 after losing each of the first three games in this series. San Joses record is even more of a negative when you consider that 6 of their 10 playoff games have come at home. San Jose is simply being outskated, outworked, and outsmarted so far in this series. Dallas has the look of a very confident team right now while San Jose is already lamenting another lost opportunity as an earlier than expected playoff exit is what now looms for the Sharks. The Stars know they can wrap this up tonight and the opportunity to take advantage of their road foe, whose physical and mental strength is sapped at this point, is something that Dallas wont let pass them by. The Sharks penalty kill has struggled as theyve now allowed 10 goals in 33 chances in the playoffs. Conversely, the penalty kill of Dallas has been one of the tops in the Western Conference in these playoffs and their power play ranks 3rd among the 16 teams that made the postseason. Special teams have a tendency to lead to special results at this time of year and, right now, the Stars have it and the Sharks dont. Dallas should finish off San Jose tonight. Lay the price!

Re: Wednesday Service Plays

MATT FARGO

San Diego Padres @ Philadelphia Phillies
PICK: San Diego Padres

REASON FOR PICK: The Padres dropped another one last night, this time a 7-4 defeat at Philadelphia to move their record to 1-7 over their last eight games. The offense has been horrendous as San Diego has hit .219 or worse in six straight games. Why back the Padres here? The streak is not against them yet as they have dropped two in a row and the pitching matchup favors them in more ways that one as explained down further. I don?t like the overdue theory but San Diego is ready.

Philadelphia has won seven of its last nine games but its play at home has remained inconsistent. The Phillies are 7-6 at home and are averaging just 4.8 rpg, compared to 5.5 rpg a season ago and even tough it is early, that is a rather large disparity. Philadelphia is hitting .259 on the season, compared to .274 last year so it is fairly obvious that the offense has lacked its normal production. The Phillies are 2-5 in their last seven games as a home favorite of -110 to -150.

As mentioned the pitching edge favors the Padres based on both starters. Chris Young is once again having a solid season as he has tossed three quality outings in his five starts with another just falling short by one-third of an inning. His overall numbers may not look great and that is due to one bad start against the Dodgers. Take that out and his ERA drops from 3.77 to 2.10 and his WHIP drops from 1.40 to 1.13. Young has a 1.46 ERA in two career starts against the Phillies.

Jamie Moyer takes the hill for the Phillies and he is in the middle of a spectacular run. Three of his last four starts have been quality outings including his last two and that is where it ends as he falls into the go against spot of a lower class pitcher coming off back-to-back quality starts. While this is a league-wide scenario, the Phillies are a team that helps the cause as they are 3-8 in Moyer?s last 11 starts following a quality outing last time out. He posted a 7.94 ERA in two starts against the Padres last season.

Karl Garnett

Los Angeles -125 at FLORIDA

Baseball tonight, and surprise, surprise, Florida is your leader in the NL East after nearly a month of play. Going to go against the Marlins though tonight, as Andrew Miller may have great stuff, but he has yet to harness his talent, and does sport an ERA still over 7 despite coming off a 5-inning, 1-run win over Atlanta.

Derek Lowe is coming off a win, and his ERA for the year is just 2.45. His Dodgers come in fresh off a weekend sweep of Colorado, and they have won 4 of 5 overall.

The last 2 years in South Florida, the Dodgers are 5-2, and while they are just 3-8 on the road this year, this looks like a good spot for LA to continue their winning streak.
Take the Dodgers as the small road favorite.

Mr. A's

NBA

Cleveland Cavaliers -4½

Atlanta Hawks +14

MLB

Toronto Blue Jays (11-16) at Boston Red Sox (16-12)

Both, Boston and Toronto have been struggling, plummeting offenses. The Blue Jays have dropped seven of their last eight games and six of its last seven on the road. Meanwhile, the Red Sox have lost five of their last six, but have won eight of its last ten at home.

Toronto’s right-hander Dustin McGowan (1-2, 4.18) is 2-1 against the Red Sox with a 3.71 ERA. in four appearances (two starts).

Boston’s right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka (4-0, 3.14 ERA) is 3-1 lifetime against the Blue Jays with a 5.18 ERA in four starts.

The Blue Jays have taken seven of the last 8 meetings, but the Red Sox have won four of the last six versus Toronto in Boston and Daisuke Matsuzaka last six starts at home. Toronto has lost four of Dustin McGowan last 5 starts. Take Boston at Fenway Park.

Boston Red Sox - 175

Jeff Alexander Sports

1 Unit on LA Dodgers -110
(listing Billingsley and Olsen)

The Dodgers continued their domination of the Marlins on the road, winning for the 6th time in 8 tries, last night.  With the struggles Olsen has had with solid NL West lineups, I expect the Blue and White to drown the Fish again.  The Marlins are 0-5 in Olsen's last 5 starts vs. the National League West and 5-17 in their last 22 vs. the National League West.  The Dodgers are 4-0 in their last 4 overall and 6-2 in Billingsley's last 8 starts vs. the National League East.  They are also 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a left-handed starter. I look for Olsen to get shelled tonight.  Take the Dodgers.

Re: Wednesday Service Plays

Wunderdog

Pittsburgh at New York  Mets
Pick: Pittsburgh +160

Tom Gorzelanny pitched a bad team to an 8-9 record on the road last season, which means he keeps his team in games, and has posted an ERA under four over the last two seasons. The Mets have been in a lot of close games, which means the back of the pen has logged a lot of innings, and Wagner has pitched in the last three, blowing the save last night. Perez is not a pitcher that goes deep in games, as he has completed six innings just once this season. Perez has walked 15 in his last 21 innings of work, and the Pirates will have opportunities in this one. His lone appearance against the Pirates last year, at home, resulted in a loss and the Pirates have a good chance of stealing one here today.

Re: Wednesday Service Plays

Ferrall

Chicago W.Sox +115 on moneyline over Minnesota--Chicago evens up this series in the Twin Cities. They'll get to Blackburn at the Homerdome. His EAR over the last 3 games is 4.26 which isn't that bad. Massett has no results to speak of. Thus, TAKE THE OVER 9 RUNS

RANGERS -105 on ML over Royals--Kevin Millwood rights the ship after a couple of bad outings and beats Brian Bannister and the Royals. They've both struggled in last few starts. Bannister has cooled off after starting 3-0. He's lost his last two. Millwood gets the W at home.

ANGELS -155 on ML over Oakland--Santana improves to 5-0 and just doesn't lose at home in Anaheim. His ERA is 2.97 overall and 3.00 over last 3 starts with 18 K's. Eveland has been equally impressive for the A's. TAKE THE UNDER 9 RUNS

Cincy -115 on ML over Cardinals--Reds get it done for Harang, who's struck out 22 guys over last 3 starts. He's got a 2.76 ERA. The Reds haven't scored runs for him, but they will today at Busch 2 against Braden Looper.

DIAMONDBACKS -155 on ML over Houston--Randy Johnson dominates the Stros in the Desert. So far, the Big Unit has looked very impressive with a 2.70 ERA and 20 K's in his 2 starts. Chacon is the victim for Houston.

San Francisco -110 on ML over Colorado--I'm on Dirty Sanchez over Jimenez here. Sanchez has 18 K's over last 3 starts with 2 wins. His ERA over that span is 2.00. Jimenez gets lit every time out and has a 7.62 ERA over last 3 starts with one loss. He's given up 11 earned in those games.

Braves -110 on ML over Nationals--Jerrjens has won 2 of his last 3 with a 2.84 ERA. He's got decent stuff and has 17 K's over last 3 outings. TAKE THE OVER 9 RUNS

Locksmith Sports

1 Unit on Tampa Bay Rays -115
(listing Sonnanstine)

Tampa Bay lost game 1, but it won't be denied in game 2 with the 3-1 Sonnanstine on the hill.  The Rays are 6-1 in their last 7 vs. the American League East, 4-0 in their last 4 during game 2 of a series, and 6-0 in their last 6 games vs. a right-handed starter.  They are also impressively 5-1 in Sonnanstine's last 6 starts on grass.  The Orioles are 2-8 in their last 10 Wednesday games which is another way of saying that the middle game of a series has been problematic for them.  I like the red hot Rays to bounce back after enduring their first loss in 7 games.  Take Tampa Bay.
