Pittsburgh Penguins vs. New Jersey Devils
Play: Point Spread: -1.5/140 New Jersey Devils

1 Unit, Take the New Jersey Devils -1.5 +140, The Devils are the superior team Tuesday night because of crucial injuries that the Penguins have coming into this game. (Crosby, Eaton, Kennedy and Roberts) The Devils are 13-7 in their last 20 games against the Penguins and the Devils are 6-2 this season when playing with 3 or more days rest. The Devils are also 12-6 when playing at home and the Penguins are just 5-12 against division opponents this season. The Penguins are just 13-34 revenging a home loss against an opponent and they will continue to struggle to get shots on goal tonight as they have averaged just 23 SOG per game over their last 5 games played.

San Antonio Spurs at Seattle Supersonics

At 10:05 pm, our member selection is on the San Antonio Spurs minus the points over Seattle. Gregg Popovich's crew lost last night in Utah, and yes, the Spurs have struggled in the past 6 weeks. But most of their misfortune has come against winning teams (1-9 last 10). The Spurs are doing OK vs. the foes they should beat. And off a loss last night, San Antonio will be primed to make amends vs. these young Sonics. For technical support, consider that NBA road favorites priced from -5 to -11 points are a solid 135-76 ATS since 1990, if our road fave is off a SU loss and has a win percentage greater than .600, and our home dog's win percentage is less than .400. Look for an old-fashioned blowout tonight. Good luck - Al McMordie

GOLDEN STATE over *HOUSTON by 11

Don Nelson does a great job of game-planning for opposing big men and he’s always
done a number on Yao Ming’s performance. The Golden State attack is predisposed to
exploiting size mismatches, and Yao represents one giant size mismatch. Rick Adelman’s offense has given the Rockets more diversity, but they still can’t match the Warriors for speed and effectiveness. GOLDEN STATE 104-93

Ah, the rare triple-revenge home team is George Mason. But their upcoming CAA
Player of the Year, forward Will Thomas, doesn?t seem to want to play much defense
right now. He didn?t pick up his first foul at Hofstra until overtime. He fouled only
once at James Madison. He hasn?t faced many smart opposing coaches in the last 10
days, but that run of luck stops here. And Dre Smith?s 10-for-10 shooting afternoon

TONY WESTON

Tennessee over Alabama.

The line on this game is pretty ridiculous and will end up being an easy winner for us and the Vols.Alabama comes into this game 2-3 SU its L5 games at home and 1-3 ATS its L4 lined games at home. For the season the Crimson Tide are only 2-7 ATS at home. While Tennessee is only 3-5 ATS on the road this season, the Volunteers are 5-3 ATS their L8 games, including a 3-1 mark ATS on the road. Also, since Nov. 27 when the Vols beat North Carolina A&T, they?re 12-1 SU.Tennessee will dominate the Tide and pick up an easy win.
Go with the Vols.

3* TENNESSEE (1* to 5* Scale)

Game: Detroit Pistons at Indiana Pacers
Prediction: Indiana Pacers

Reason: Play On: Indiana Pacers
Note: Pacers return home off embarrassing loss to Miami, a game in which the Heat halted a 15-game losing streak at Indiana's expense. Meanwhile the Pistons enter off a home revenge win over Orlando with yet another revenge game on tap at home against the Lakers this Thursday. Our database reminds us that the Pacers are 5-2 SU & ATS in this series when playing with double-exact revenge. Look for the hungry host to come up big against the satisfied visitor in this letdown/lookahead special this evening.

JEFF BENTON

On Tuesday, we get back on the winning side by backing Marquette minus the big points against South Florida. To put it bluntly, the Golden Eagles have been fartin? around for way too long; they?re way too talented to be letting crappy teams hang around in games. It?s time for them to step up and lay the wood to an opponent, and I think this is it, because South Florida is bad ? really bad!Since opening Big East play with a 68-54 home rout of Rutgers as an 11-point chalk, the Bulls have lost six in a row, all in conference. But that?s just the start of it ? all six losses have come by double digits, and as a result USF is also 0-6 ATS during this slump. Not only that, but the Bulls are 1-12 ATS in their last 13 Big East games dating last year, and they?ve failed to cover in four straight road games, losing by margins of 13, 12, 16 and 10 points to Wake Forest, Syracuse, Providence and Seton Hall ? in other words, four teams that can?t hold Marquette?s collective jock!Marquette, despite its recent ATS downturn (1-5 ATS last six, all in conference), is still destroying teams at home, outscoring visitors by an average of 24 points per game (82-58) and outshooting them by more than 10 percentage points (48.1% to 37.7%). Bottom line: If the Golden Eagles want to be taken seriously as an NCAA Tournament contender, they need to start blowing out the Big East?s bottom-feeders beginning tonight!

(based on a 1 to a 10  Rating)

5* MARQUETTE

Dave Cokin

Marquette hasn't exactly been dominating lately, but I think they're ready to blow someone out, and hapless South Florida is the perfect victim. The Bulls are simply getting overmatched in the Big East, and are off two wipeout losses at home. Marquette finally got something going Saturday against DePaul, and looked good in the second half when they needed to in getting the win, although they failed to cover. I see some legit value in this number, thanks to the recent ATS struggles of the Golden Eagles. They're only laying one more basket here than they did against DePaul, and they actually were bigger chalk than this against Seton Hall. USF is pretty awful defensively, so here's where Marquette should finally get their offense rolling and I see this one being very lopsided. Marquette minus the points.

Jim Feist

never know which NY team is going to show up, with one exception -- they never play defense. The Knicks allow 47.3% shooting by opponents, worst in the NBA. In fact, both teams allow over 100 ppg, ranked in the bottom 11 in points allowed. The Knicks allow 103 ppg on the road where they are 13-6 over the total. 2 of the last 3 meetings between these teams have gone over. Look for more offense than defense in this one, play the

Knicks/Lakers over the total!

Bobby Maxwell

The Hokies got a big ACC win Saturday, beating Boston College in Beantown 81-73 as a five-point underdog. That momentum will certainly carry over tonight and carry Virginia Tech to an easy win over Florida State. The Seminoles lost to North Carolina State 69-66 on Saturday and now sit at 1-4 in their last five, all against ACC competition. Florida State was an eight-point favorite against the Wolfpack and have now failed to get the cash in six straight games and 10 of their last 11.In ACC action, Florida State is just 1-5 ATS. On the road, the Seminoles are 1-4 ATS in their last five and they are 2-5 ATS as an underdog.Virginia Tech is 5-2 ATS as a favorite of less than 15 points, 8-1 at home and in this series the home team has won all four matchups (3-1 ATS).Look for the Hokies to pounce on the struggling Seminoles tonight. This line is way too short not to play Virginia Tech. The Hokies win this game by 10 points. Play Virginia Tech.

3* VIRGINIA TECH

MATT RIVERS

For Tuesday once again take the points with the Knicks out West.

In a similar write up to Sunday night I am going to once again roll with the Knicks tonight at Staples against Kobe and the Lakers. Whether you want to admit it or not these New Yorkers have really been a lot better of late and are certainly worth a shot here.Isiah Thomas is still a joke and the Knick players have the potential to quit at anytime but they also have some talent and if they want to play certainly can compete here.Jamal Crawford has been lighting it up, Zach Randolph is a bona fide All-Star and Eddy Curry has the ability to put up some numbers when he wants. Throw in guys like David Lee and Nate Robinson and the Knicks have the upside to be in this game until the end.Kobe and the home Lakers should win the game but this team has not been the same since the Andrew Bynum injury and if you remember at right about this time a year ago Phil Jackson's squad hit the crapper. The Knicks just covered easily in Golden State on Sunday and all of a sudden have won five of their last eight games and covered six of those contests. It's also not as if they are just beating bottomfeeder teams as the streak started by pounding the Pistons by 24 and includes beating both the Nets and Wizards on the road.New York continues their five game West Coast road trip here and if they really want to have any chance at snatching a playoff spot cannot just get drilled and go from 14-28 to 14-33 in a span of a week or so.Los Angeles seems to be a regressing club after blowing the late lead once again to LeBron and the Cavs at home on Sunday and at this solid takeback I'll once again take my chances on Isiah's squad for sure!

The Hawks have lost 5 of their last 6 games SU and 4 of 6 ATS and I don't anticipate them bounce back well from a 1-point loss at Portland in a game they should have won.  In fact,  Atlanta is 1-11 ATS in road games after a close loss by 3 points or less over the last 3 seasons and 2-12 ATS in road games off a cover where they lost the game straight up as an underdog over the last 3 seasons.  The Suns comes in having won 6 of 7 SU and ATS.  They are 8-2 SU and 7-3 ATS versus the Hawks at home the last 10 meetings.  Atlanta actually beat the Suns earlier this season, way back in November, but you better believe that Phoenix has not forgotten.  The Suns are 16-6 ATS revenging a same season loss vs opponent over the last 2 seasons.  Lay the points here.

The Spurs just can't catch any breaks right now.  Just when it looked like they were going to come back and beat the Jazz last night, Udoka picked up a costly technical foul to give the Jazz a free throw and the ball and that was all she wrote.  San Antonio has been playing a lot of games and appears very tired and this is just the beginning of its long road trip.  The Spurs have lost 11 of their last 14 games ATS, putting backers in a big hole.   They are just 6-12 ATS on the road this season.  While the Sonics are on a long losing streak, they have managed to cover the number in 3 of their last 4 games and are 12-9 ATS in home games this season.  The Sonics are 10-1 ATS in home games after 6 or more consecutive losses since 1996.  The Spurs aren't blowing anyone out right now.  Take the points in this one.

Re: Tuesday Service Plays

NCAA BASKETBALL PICK

Wichita State + over Missouri State

Missouri State routed Wichita State earlier this season, winning by 24 points at home just three weeks ago. Since that win the Bears have gone 1-4 ATS and neither of these former Missouri Valley powers appears to be headed to the NCAA tournament unless a miraculous run through the conference tournament occurs. Missouri State has not been able to find success on the road this season, with an incredibly bad 1-7 S/U record and zero ATS road wins this season. The games have not been close either, losing by 8, 11, 15, and 19 in four conference road games. Wichita State continues to struggle with a 1-8 overall conference record but the Shockers have some reason for hope. All five home losses in the conference have come in close games with final margins of less than ten points. The losses also include close games with the top three teams in the conference while Missouri State has lost on the road to several marginal teams. Despite the horrible record this year, Wichita State is capable of putting a strong game together tonight for the upset.

NBA PICK

Minnesota + over Chicago

The Wolves have battled through the toughest ranked schedule and the league and it shows with just eight wins but Minnesota is starting to gain confidence. The Timberwolves have covered in five consecutive games, winning three games outright with the two losses coming in very tight games that Minnesota probably deserved to win. It has been a dramatic turnaround for Minnesota and there is no reason to expect a halt to the progress against a flat Bulls squad. The Bulls have covered in just four of the last 16 home games and injuries to key players weaken the lineup even further. The Bulls have been one of the most disappointing teams in the league and consistent effort has been hard to find with Chicago. The Wolves are playing with great energy and can keep rolling with another strong performance as an underdog.

Re: Tuesday Service Plays

1* (regular play) Ottawa Senators Money Line -145

The Senators are used to enjoying success at Nassau Coliseum. However, they lost their most recent meeting here which came in December. Also, adding more fuel to the Senators fire tonight is that they lost in Ottawa versus the Isanders earlier this month! Needless to say, the Sens are not short on emotion coming into tonight's game and we truly like the circumstances surrounding this game.

While the Senators were struggling prior to the break, they were able to turn things around a bit with a dominating 8-4 win at Tampa Bay just before the All Star Break. That win came last Thursday and the Sens finished off the first half of the season with a convincing victory. They look to start off the second half the same way and, even without Dany Heatley, the Senators proved how powerful their offense can be without a key player on the ice. It is the depth of the Senators that is the key. Their emotional state is much better than that of the Islanders right now. The Isles were hammered at Boston 4 to 1 to wrap up their first half of the season on Thursday. Tonight, the Isles are back at Nassau Coliseum but that may not be much help to them. They have lost four straight games there!

Martin Gerber should be between the pipes for the Senators tonight and he has enjoyed success against the Islanders and success at Nassau Coliseum. The biggest key here is the offensive disparities between these clubs. The Senators have much more firepower than the Islanders possess. The Sens also have the extra hunger of suffering a rare home loss (first in five years) to the Islanders earlier this month. It's payback time and the Senators are looking forward to serving revenge in their opponent's building. That big win the Sens got before the break to stop their slump is just what they needed to be a catalyst to get them off on the right foot to start the second half. We've seen this many times before in the past and we'll see it again tonight.

Play Ottawa on the money line as a regular selection.

Re: Tuesday Service Plays

10 Dime –

VCU

Take the points with Vcu tonight when they travel to take on George Mason.

This is a rare triple-revenge spot for host George Mason, and while I’ll allow that they are very tough to beat at home, I don’t think they’re going to cover this number.

First off, Patriots forward Will Thomas might end up being the CAA Player of the Year, but he won’t win it for his defensive prowess. Thomas rarely commits a foul, which means he doesn’t play physical enough in the paint.

Since Vcu seems to have George Mason’s number, any easy buckets they score inside will go a long way in keeping them within the number.

Vcu has won and covered the last three meetings, and are on a 10-4 ATS run in this series. The Rams are also on a 9-3-1 ATS roll in their last 13 games overall.

George Mason is just 4-9 ATS in its last 13 home games.

Take the points with Vcu as they stay within the number tonight.

5 Dime –

PISTONS

Take the Pistons as the road chalk tonight over the Pacers.

Detroit has won the last four meetings of this series, including two last month during the Pistons’ season-best 11-game winning streak.

The Pacers are struggling right now, having lost three straight and 13 of 17. Their defense has been virtually non-existent this month, as they are allowing 106.5 ppg in January.

Indiana will be without two of its best players, Jamaal Tinsley and Jermaine O’Neal, who are both out with knee injuries.

Detroit is 22-8-1 ATS in its last 31 games overall, while Indiana is just 1-4 ATS in its last five.

Take the Pistons as the road chalk as they grab the win and cover.

ALABAMA

Take Alabama as the road dog tonight when they host Tennessee.

The Crimson Tide showed signs of breaking out of their recent slump with a 97-77 rout of Auburn on Saturday.

The Vols bounced back from their loss at Kentucky with a rout of their own, 85-69 over Georgia.

But Tennessee has had its problems with Alabama over the years, going just 1-7 SU and 0-8 ATS in the last eight meetings. They are also 0-6 ATS in their last six trips to Tuscaloosa.

The Vols are also 0-8 ATS in their last eight games against teams with a winning record and 1-5 ATS as a single-digit chalk.

Take the points with Alabama as they battle throughout and keep this game within the number.
