SWINGS

Boston forward Glen Murray, who had just three goals in his first 20 games, scored his second and third in two games Monday night, a 6-3 victory over Philadelphia. The Bruins, who snapped a three-game losing streak against the Flyers, have won five of seven games overall.

SNAPPED

Dallas' 3-2 overtime victory Monday night was its first over the Islanders since March 23, 2001 (1-5-0-1).

DOMINANT

Buffalo has 10 goals in two victories over Washington this season, including a 3-1 win Monday night.

STRUGGLING

The Islanders failed to score in the first period for the sixth straight game in a 3-2 overtime loss to Dallas on Monday night. They have scored only 10 goals in 21 opening periods this season. New York hasn't scored more than two goals in nine consecutive games, going 4-4-1 in that span, and has an NHL-low 51 goals.

NO DEAL

The proposed sale of the Tampa Bay Lightning to a group that includes former Florida Panthers coach Doug MacLean is off. The team said Monday night that an agreement Palace Sports & Entertainment reached in August to sell the NHL franchise to Absolute Hockey Enterprises was terminated on Nov. 14.

SPEAKING

''It was a good feeling to get one in regulation. We're not doing anything the easy way. It would have been nice to win a couple games at the beginning of the homestand and give ourselves a chance to put something together. But it was nice to recover and get to .500 during this stretch.'' - Oilers coach Craig MacTavish after a 3-1 victory over Columbus on Monday night helped them finish 3-3 on a season-long six-game homestand. Edmonton's past three victories came in the shootout, as did six of its previous nine wins this season.

Re: Hockey Today - November 27

Forsberg getting ready for possible return; Wings dominating All-Star lineup
November 27, 2007

Sweden the pot?

Fading star Peter Forsberg, often rumored to be a Red Wings target in free agency, received an encouraging evaluation of his surgically repaired foot, according to Swedish newspaper Expressen, via the Denver Post. The 34-year-old forward is working out in his native Sweden for a possible return to the NHL, and ESPN identified the Wings, Senators, Avalanche and Flyers as the front-runners to sign him.

Break up the Wings

When last we glanced at the voting totals, Wings forwards Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk and defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom would have comprised half of the Western Conference's starting lineup in the All-Star Game. Online voting continues through Jan. 2, and the good news is that defenseman Rory Fitzpatrick now plays for the Flyers in the Eastern Conference, so he can't make a run for Lidstrom's spot.

Central issue

Care to guess which Central Division team has the worst record against division foes? Yep, it's the Wings at 4-5-2. But, hey, they are 11-1 against the rest of the league, which bodes well for their upcoming stretch of six straight games against non-Central opponents.
