STEELERS

Take the Steelers minus the big number tonight at home over their arch-rival Baltimore Ravens.

There’s no question the Steelers have turned it around this year after missing out on the playoffs last season. Ben Roethlisberger is playing great and Willie Parker came into yesterday as the leading rusher in the AFC.

There’s also something to be said about the beatings they took against Baltimore last season.

The Ravens pounded the Steelers both physically and on the scoreboard, outscoring them 58-7 in two games. Pittsburgh had protection problems in both games which allowed the Ravens to tee-off on Big Ben to the tune of 14 sacks.

So what does that mean?

It means the Steelers will come into this game with a chip on their shoulders. They know how bad it was to get outplayed on both sides of the ball against a team they despise. Add in the factor that the Steelers will be honoring their 75th anniversary all-time team and you get the feeling that the emotions will be sky high for this one.

I read that coach Mike Tomlin had the Steelers looking at tapes of the two Ravens games from last year during training camp, already laying the groundwork for the gameplan that they will be using against them this year.

It also served as a reminder that there is some payback in store for a division rival that embarrassed them in both games last year.

Baltimore comes into this game only 1-6 ATS over their last seven. The Steelers have won and covered all three of their home games this year, winning by an average margin of 21.7 points.

Pittsburgh has also been money under the Monday Night lights, going 11-2 ATS at home since 1992. They are also 13-4 ATS at home after playing the Bengals.

Take the Steelers minus the big number as they exert some serious payback for last year’s beatings they took at the hands of the Ravens.

Baltimore at Pittsburgh

Steady rain on the way, 15-20 mph winds too.
Baltimore had two weeks to prepare some
offensive surprises that they don't have.
Field goal game coming as both sides are
very good defensively in the red zone and
Baltimore is traditionally poor offensively
in the red zone. PITTSBURGH, 20-9.

Re: Monday Service Picks and Free Consensus Reports:

Big Al
At 8:30 pm, our selection is on the Pittsburgh Steelers minus the points over Baltimore. Brian Billick's Ravens have been a huge disappointment this year in Las Vegas, going 1-6 ATS. And the only game they covered was against the winless St. Louis Rams. The fact that Baltimore has won four of its seven games straight-up is largely due to mirrors, as they easily could have lost to the Jets, Cardinals, and 49ers. In contrast, the Steelers are 5-2 SU and ATS, and their early blowout wins over Cleveland and Buffalo look rather good now, given how well those teams have played since. All five of Pittsburgh's wins were easy, and they could have won either of their two setbacks (at Denver and at Arizona) had things broken differently. The Men of Steel have always played great at home, and now they fall into a super Monday Night Football angle that plays on unrested teams returning home from back to back road games. And if our home team has a win percentage of .454 or better and is matched up against a .665 (or worse) foe, then our home teams are a super 24-0 ATS since 1982. The home team in this heated rivalry is 32-22 ATS since 1980, and we'll back the Black and Gold as our Monday Night Football Game of the Year. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.
