Friday Service Picks and Free Consensus Reports:

Ron Raymond’s Week 17 CFL Picks

FRIDAY

Calgary 54.5 vs. Winnipeg -4

Pick: Winnipeg -4.0 (5* BEST BET)

Ron’s Comment: The Winnipeg Blue Bombers got caught mentally last week, as they were preparing for Ben Sankey, not Henri Burris and it showed in their lack of effort. Sometimes you see a game on the schedule and see an opponent who just got whipped the week prior, you sort of think it’s in the bag. However, the letdown was on the Blue Bombers last weekend, as Henri Burris and the Stampeders won 38-25 as a +2.0 point home dog. The Weather forecast looks cold and wet for Friday night in the Peg and the Bombers are 8-1 SU since 1986 as a Home Favorite in October. Look for Charles Roberts to be the main offensive weapon on offense for the Bombers and look for Winnipeg’s defense to make a statement. High stakes here for the Bombers, as they feel the Argos breathing down their necks!

ATSDatabase Tip: When CALGARY team played as Road team as a Underdog -Playing on Friday - Allowed scored 27 points or less against; Calgary is 3-13 SU and 5-11 ATS in this role.

Forecast: Winnipeg 29 Calgary 15

Re: Friday Service Picks and Free Consensus Reports:

Michael Cannon Goes 1-1 on Thursday, Slump Continues, Down 17.5 Dimes
Friday:

20 Dime –

CONNECTICUT
Take the points with UConn tonight when they host Louisville.
Louisville has fallen on some tough times this year because of their defenses’ inability to stop even the most pedestrian of offenses. It matters little what Brian Brohm and company do on offense when their defense is allowing yards and points at an exponential rate.
UConn may not be in the same class of offense as the Cardinals, but they won’t have to be to control the ball and dictate the tempo of the game.
The Huskies defense has been opportunistic this year and could cause some troubles for the Cardinals. Even if they don’t get any turnovers, they have the ability to pressure Brohm and any stop against the Louisville offense means another good chance for the Huskies to score against the Cardinals swiss-cheese stop unit.
Another factor working against Louisville’s offense is the weather. The forecast is calling for a 60 percent chance of rain with high winds expected. Since UConn can run against the Cardinals defense, they have the advantage here.
Louisville is just 1-4 SUATS in conference play off a SU dog win while UConn head coach Randy Edsall is 10-4 ATS at home off a loss, including a perfect 6-0 in his last six tries.
Take the points with UConn as they get it done in front of the home crowd.

10 Dime –

EASTERN MICHIGAN
Take the points with Eastern Michigan tonight over Northwestern.
There’s no doubt Northwestern has been on fire offensively, but much like Louisville, this team has no defense whatsoever.
Asking them to cover this number is just too much the way the Wildcats stop unit has played.
It’s not as if Eastern Michigan hasn’t shown some life themselves. They rallied from a 28-0 deficit last week, and almost pulled off the comeback before falling short at Ohio, 48-42.
Northwestern is 0-4 ATS against sub-.700 MAC foes and 4-8 ATS when installed as a chalk. The Wildcats are also just 1-7 ATS in their last eight non-conference games.
Take the points with Eastern Michigan as they keep it within the number.

Colorado is off to a 4-2 start this season and are 19-7 in their last 26 games overall. Although they are 0-2 this season on the road they are 10-4 in their last 14 road games. In their last 12 games vs. Western Conference team's the Avalanche are 9-3. At 3-3 Chicago is already playing a lot better than most expected. However the Blackhawks are 20-57-4 in their last 81 games vs. Northwest opponents. Chicago is 4-11-1 in the last 16 meetings between the team's. Colorado has won 6 of their last 8 visits to Chicago. Play on the Avalanche

3-Unit Play. Take #307 Louisville (-3) over Connecticut (8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20)
Louisville is in a prime letdown spot after their win over Cincinnati last week, but I’m still more willing to back their talent over Connecticut. The Huskies haven’t played anyone near the caliber of the Cardinals and I think their 5-1 record is somewhat of an aberration. Louisville is 3-0 against the Huskies with a 20-point average margin of victory.

The Gold Sheet

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19

*Northwestern 42 - EASTERN MICHIGAN 38—EMU showed a little spunk
rallying from 28-0 deficit to contest Ohio U. last week, and “back door” might be
open for Eagle QB Schmitt (20 of 28 passing, 210 YP & 4 TDP vs. Bobcats;
check status). Respect Northwestern attack, as QB Bacher has thrown for 990
yards & 9 TDs with no ints. the last two weeks, but the Wildcats have yielded 89
points in those games. (at Detroit, MI)
(06-NWSTRN. 14-E. Mich. 6...N.15-5 N.44/156 E.28/87 N.16/26/1/110 E.9/25/2/47 N.1 E.0)
(06-NORTHWESTERN -17' 14-6...SR: Northwestern 1-0)

*CONNECTICUT 27 - Louisville 26—Last week’s win at rival Cincinnati a
major boost for Louisville’s sagging confidence. UConn well coached &
fundamentally sound. Still, Cards’ star sr. QB Brohm has 23 TDP, only 4
ints., and a very bright NFL future, while Husky counterpart Lorenzen, a juco
transfer, adjusting to major college action. But L’ville defense still
problematic. TV—ESPN
(06-LVL. 48-Conn. 17...L.28-8 L.44/221 C.31/147 L.21/29/1/349 C.7/19/1/89 L.2 C.1)
(06-LOUISVILLE -28' 48-17 05-Louisville -15 30-20...SR: Louisville 3-0)

Re: Friday Service Picks and Free Consensus Reports:

I hate to be John Q. Public on this one, but even though UCONN is a home underdog, I still see massive value in UL. The Huskies have played incredibly well this year, but they haven't seen a passing offense yet that ranks in the top 50. They'll see one tonight, however.

I don't think it will be a shootout, but I bet Louisville pulls away in the second half...

100♦ CONNECTICUT

While it might be very easy to say that U Conn's defensive numbers – third in scoring defense and sixth in rushing defense - are ambiguous because of the schedule it's played, but with guys like linebacker Danny Lansanah and cornerback Darius Butler - proven commodities in the Big East – and arguably two of the best in the Big East Conference at their positions. I believe they pose as good a threat to chase and haunt Brian Brohm.

Adding to those statistical numbers is Connecticut's No. 10 ranking with its pass-efficiency defense and overall pass defense. Through six games this defense boasts the third-best turnover margin, so it will be interesting to see how it fares against this potent Louisville offense.

The Huskies, coming off their first loss of the season – a game they allowed just 17 points to Virginia – haven't given up more than that all season. And with the toughest part of their schedule in front of them, tonights clash with the Cards kickoff a three-game home stand that also includes South Florida and Rutgers. There's no looking past Louisville, that's for sure, in fact, a win here could motivate the team for continued games that also include Cincinnati, Syracuse and West Virginia.

Let's also not forget that each game this team plays is a shot at bowl eligibility. One more win, and the Huskies qualify for a postseason game.

Despite an upset win at 15th-ranked Cincinnati last Saturday the Cardinals have still lost three of their last five, and have just two road wins to their credit. The Huskies, meanwhile, are tied for first-place in the Big East, and sport a 4-1 ATS mark in their last four games against Big East opponents. I'll take the points
