CLERMONT, Ind. (AP) -Ron Hornaday Jr. relied on his ability to make strong restarts as he won Friday's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Power Stroke Diesel 200 at O'Reilly Raceway Park.

Hornaday passed Travis Kvapil 30 laps from the finish of the 201-lap race, then maintained his lead after two late restarts - the last of which came on lap 199.

Hornaday, who also won the race in 1997, dived low in the last turn of the last lap to keep Johnny Benson two lengths behind at the finish.

``Johnny Benson and I raced side by side for what seemed like 40 laps, and I couldn't get away from him,'' Hornaday said. ``He wanted to win as much as we did.''

Benson said second was about the best he could do.

``Our truck was good enough to get to second,'' Benson said. ``We burned the tires getting there. It's a brand new truck, so we're pretty happy. Second's still a great day.''

Kvapil finished third, just ahead of Rick Crawford. Ken Schrader finished fifth after starting 17th. Todd Bodine, Erik Darnell, Reagan Smith, Jack Sprague and Brendan Gaughan rounded out the top 10.

The start of the race was delayed almost two hours by light but persistent rain showers that washed out qualifications.

That left points leader Mike Skinner on the pole, but he steadily slipped back. A lengthy pit stop on lap 126 during a caution dropped him to 25th. He wound up 20th. Skinner has won four races this season and had finished no lower than eighth.

``We knew the only way to catch Skinner is for him to have a bad break,'' said Hornaday, who more than halved Skinner's lead to 77 points. ``If we win races, the points will come.''

There were nine cautions for 49 laps, one shy of the track record set in 2006.
