Cromwell, CT (Sports Network) - Phil Mickelson's nagging left wrist injury forced him to withdraw this week from the Travelers Championship.

Mickelson missed the U.S. Open cut last Friday after playing two rounds at Oakmont wearing a black brace on the injured wrist. It was the first time he missed the cut at a major since 1999.

He originally withdrew 11 holes into the Memorial three weeks ago, then skipped a scheduled start in Memphis leading up to the Open.

The injury, Mickelson said, was sustained while chipping from the brutal rough during a practice round he played at Oakmont ahead of the Memorial.

His name was removed from the Travelers Championship field Monday.

Mickelson won the tournament twice when it was still known as the Greater Hartford Open.
