DOMINATOR WAITS
Dominik Hasek will wait a few weeks before deciding whether to return to the Detroit Red Wings next season or retire. The 42-year-old Hasek went 38-11-6 with a 2.05 goals-against average, .913 save percentage, and eight shutouts during the regular season, his 15th in the NHL and third with Detroit in two stints. Hasek was 10-8 with a 1.79 GAA, .923 save percentage, and two shutouts in the playoffs.
PROMOTED
Luc Robitaille, the highest-scoring left wing in NHL history, was promoted Friday to the Los Angeles Kings' president of business operations. Robitaille, who retired at the end of the 2005-06 season and took a front-office job, will work with general manager Dean Lombardi and oversee the day-to-day business operations of the Kings.
TOCCHET PLEA
Phoenix assistant coach Rick Tocchet pleaded guilty Friday to promoting gambling and conspiracy to promote gambling in a plea deal that may spare him jail time. Tocchet, who has been on an NHL-approved leave of absence since the case broke in February 2006, will have to wait for NHL officials to decide on whether he will be allowed to return to the Coyotes.
SPEAKING
''You have to be prepared and know those guys are going to come after you now. Right now, you have to be ready to keep your head up and know that somebody's going to come after you.'' - Ottawa defenseman Christoph Schubert on Anaheim's reputation for being big, strong and tough. The Senators face the Ducks in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals on Monday.
