Ottawa at New Jersey (8 p.m. EDT). A cold kept Devils captain Patrik Elias out of Thursday''s opening game loss to the Senators, but he is expected to return for Game 2.

STARS

Friday

-Jeff Cowan, Canucks, scored at 7:49 of the second overtime period to give Vancouver a 2-1 win at Anaheim.

-Thomas Vanek, Sabres, scored the tiebreaking goal midway through the third period and Buffalo rallied for a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers.

ONE TIRED TEAM

Vancouver won for the third time in four overtime games this postseason, defeating Anaheim 2-1 Friday night. The Canucks'' first three overtime games came against Dallas during the quarterfinals, the first going into the fourth extra session. Friday''s game went two overtimes.

SABRE STEPPING UP

Thomas Vanek scored his second consecutive game-winner for Buffalo in a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Friday night. It was Vanek''s fifth goal of the playoffs, and third in two games.

SNAPPED

Anaheim''s Jean-Sebastien Giguere allowed the first playoff overtime goal of his career when Jeff Cowan scored at 7:49 of the second session to give Vancouver a 2-1 win on Friday night. Giguere''s NHL-record run ended at 190 minutes, 50 seconds.

STILL OUT

Injured Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom and defenseman Brett Lebda will miss Game 2 of their playoff series against San Jose on Saturday. Holmstrom is out because he has blood on his eye and Lebda has an injured ankle.

SPEAKING

Red Wings' Holmstrom and Lebda out for Game 2 against Sharks

DETROIT -- Injured Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom and defenseman Brett Lebda will miss Game 2 of their playoff series against the San Jose Sharks.

They were absent Thursday night when San Jose won the opener 2-0. Coach Mike Babcock said they would not play Saturday in Detroit, either.

Holmstrom is out because he has blood on his eye and Lebda has an injured ankle.
