Payton out 2-3 weeks

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Miami Heat guard Gary Payton is expected to miss 2-3 weeks with a torn left calf muscle, which occurred during practice on Monday.

The 38-year-old Payton has averaged 5.3 points, 2.9 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 67 games (27 starts) for Miami this season.

Jason Kapono, who has missed 14 games with a sprained ankle, will likely see more time at guard in Payton's place.

Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Charlotte Bobcats rookie forward Adam Morrison was fined $25,000 for making an obscene gesture at a fan during a game against the Miami Heat.

The incident occurred with 1:18 remaining in the Bobcats' 111-103 overtime victory against on Sunday. Morrison missed the game with a sprained tendon in his left knee.

Morrison, the only Bobcats' player and NBA rookie to play through the first 77 games, will sit out his second straight contest on Tuesday night. He is averaging 11.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game this season.

He wasn't even in the game   big_smile

-Richard Jefferson, Nets, scored a season-high 35 points as New Jersey handed Washington its season-worst fifth straight loss, 96-92.

-Brad Miller, Kings, had 17 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds for his third career triple-double, leading Sacramento to a 112-100 victory over Memphis.

-Gerald Wallace, Bobcats, had 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead Charlotte past Miami 92-82.

-Tyronn Lue, Hawks, scored 26 points with 10 assists as Atlanta defeated Boston 104-96.

SURGING

New Jersey has won six of eight, sweeping the season series 4-0 from Washington after a 96-92 victory Tuesday night.

STANDINGS

Indiana fell two games behind Orlando for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race with five games left following Tuesday night's 90-86 loss at Philadelphia. The Pacers' loss clinched a playoff spot for Washington.

SLUMPING

Boston's 104-96 loss at Atlanta on Tuesday night was its fourth straight, fifth straight on the road and 16th in 19. ... Memphis lost its sixth straight, 112-100 to Sacramento, assuring the Grizzlies the worst record in the NBA. The Grizzlies have never won a season series over the Kings.

SCORING

David West scored a season-high 33 points, including three straight baskets in overtime, and the Hornets used a 103-100 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night to get within one game of the Western Conference's last playoff spot.

Spurs Tony Parker (back) will be a gametime decision tonight.

Celtics Delonte West (ankle) and Al Jefferson (knee) are not expected to play tonight according to the Boston Globe.

Hornets Tyson Chandler (toe) is likely out for the rest of the regular season, according to coach Byron Scott.

Pacers Jamaal Tinsley (elbow) is doubtful.

76ers Andre Iguodala (back) and Kyle Korver (wrist) are both listed as out.

Mavs Dirk Nowitzki (rest) and Jerry Stackhouse (rest) are both listed as out.

Rockets Bonzi Wells will not play for the team the remainder of the season, after not showing up for the team's game on Monday according to the Houston Chronicle.
