Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Vikings released 15-year veteran quarterback Brad Johnson on Wednesday.

"Brad has been a true pro throughout his career and we wish him the best as he moves forward," said Vikings head coach Brad Childress. "Brad was an important part of the team and a guy who led by example on and off the field. He's a class act and a guy younger players could learn a lot from about what it takes to play in the NFL."

Johnson has earned a reputation as an efficient game manager, but struggled a bit last season with nine touchdowns to 15 interceptions.

Originally a ninth-round selection by the Vikings in 1992, Johnson played nine seasons with Minnesota from 1992-98 and again from 2005-06.

He has led each of the three franchises he has played for - Minnesota, Washington and Tampa Bay - to the playoffs, and guided the Buccaneers to the Super Bowl XXXVII title over Oakland following the 2002 season.

Johnson set an NFL record with 11 straight seasons with a completion percentage over 60 percent.

The Florida State product has amassed 28,548 yards over his career with 164 touchdowns and 117 interceptions.
