Pettis submits Henderson


MILWAUKEE, WI (The Spread) – Anthony Pettis finally claimed the UFC Lightweight Title on Saturday night, beating the champion Benson Henderson by submission.

Pettis (17-2) looked to be struggling early on, as Henderson (19-3) pushed the fight against the cage. Pettis was patient and waited for his time to strike. Pettis landed some crushing body kicks, but took a chance on a wheel kick that left him on his back. With Henderson in his guard, Pettis quickly snatched up an armbar that forced Henderson to submit. According to oddsmakers at, Pettis had odds of -105 to win this bout, which means a wager of $100 on him to prevail will payout an additional $100.

The co-main event of Saturday’s card saw Josh Barnett (33-6) pick up an impressive win over Frank Mir (16-8). The two went right at it from the start, with Barnett pushing the pace and working Mir into the fence. From there, Barnett hammered Mir with dirty boxing, utilizing knees and uppercuts to fatigue Mir. After a few minutes, Barnett caught Mir flush with a knee to the face that sent the former UFC champion to the ground and warranted a stoppage from the ref. According to oddsmakers, Barnett had a money line of -175 to win, which means a wager on him to win will pay out an additional $100.
