Silva was never in trouble, as Okami attempted to push Silva against the cage in the opening round of their UFC Middleweight Championship contest. Once the second round started, Silva was in control. He stood still with his hands at his side, waiting for Okami to punch, only to counter with an ever stronger strike. Okami hit the ground early in the round and then Silva pounced on him for the finish.
According to oddsmakers, Silva had a money line of -625 to win the fight, so a wager of $625 on Silva would pay out an additional $100.
In the co-main event, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua avenged a prior loss to Forrest Griffin, knocking him out in the first round of their light heavyweight contest. Rua had odds of -285 to win the contest and he didn’t waste much time. Looking calm, Rua overwhelmed Griffin in the opening minutes with a big punch that sent Griffin to the ground. From there, Rua landed some devastating ground-and-pound punches that knocked Griffin out cold.
