Just like their first match at UFC 99 three years ago, Franklin and Silva were fairly even matched and each came close to finishing the fight, but ultimately went the distance. Instead of a three round fight like three years ago, this contest went five. Ultimately, Franklin did a little bit more than Silva in four of the five rounds and survived a big flurry in the second round from Silva to earn the decision. All three judges scored the fight in favor of Franklin, 49-46.
According to oddsmakers, Franklin came into the fight with odds of -185 to win, which means a wager of $185 on him to win will pay out an additional $100.
In the co-main event, Fabricio Werdum made short work of Mike Russow in a heavyweight clash. Werdum came out swinging and used his improved striking to quickly overwhelm Russow, who had yet to face an opponent of Werdum’s level. Once Werdum landed a few big strikes, Russow collapsed to the ground and Werdum finished with a flurry of strikes to earn the TKO midway through the first round. Oddsmakers gave Werdum odds of -500 to win this contest, which means a wager of $500 on him to win will pay out an additional $100.
