BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil (TheSpread) – The UFC returns to Brazil this Saturday for PPV action as they host UFC 147 which is headlined by a middleweight rematch.
UFC 147 will take place from the Mineirhnho Gymnasium with the main card bouts airing live on PPV at 10PM ET.
The main event of Saturday’s PPV is a middleweight contest between Rich Franklin (28-6) and Wanderlei Silva (34-11-1). This fight was originally scheduled to be Silva vs. Vitor Belfort, but a hand injury to Belfort opened the door for Franklin to step in. These two actually met back at UFC 99 three years ago and Franklin earned a close decision. According to oddsmakers, Franklin is the favorite to win this bout, as he has a money line of -185, while Silva has been given odds of +155 to prevail. Both men are solid strikers. Franklin is more technical while Silva has a little more power. Neither man looks to do much grappling, but if the fight hits the ground, Franklin has a slim edge.
The co-main event of Saturday’s card is a heavyweight clash between Fabricio Werdum (15-5-1) and Mike Russow (15-1). According to oddsmakers, Werdum is the heavy favorite to win this contest, as he has a money line of -500, while Russow has been given odds of +350 to win. Werdum is coming off an impressive win over Roy Nelson in his UFC return and he has won four of his last five bouts. Russow is 4-0 in the UFC but making a big step up in competition. He has won eight fights by submission, but Werdum likely has his number on the ground. Russow will probably need to win this fight with striking and wrestling, but he may not be able to.
