Maia vs. Munoz Free Pick
This bout is considered even according to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Bodog as both participants enter the contest with a money line of -115. UFC 131 takes place from the Rogers Arena and will air live on Pay-Per-View at 9PM ET.
WHY PICK MAIA
Maia (14-2) is one of the best submission fighters in MMA. He has eight submission wins in his career, with five of those coming in the octagon. Maia has fought much tougher competitions than Munoz as a whole and has proven he has the ability to contend with the elite in the division. Though not a great striker, Maia is facing an opponent that has a true wrestling base, which plays into his submission skills.
WHY PICK MUNOZ
Munoz (10-2) is a tough fighter that has a high motor. He likes to push forward and use his college wrestling background to dominate his opponents. While his striking is improving, it is far from perfect and he leaves himself open to takedowns during his punching. Munoz may be able to stay out of the submission attempts of Maia due to his wrestling, but he hasn’t been tested by a submission fighter quite like this.
WHO TO PICK?
Maia has struggled with striking specialists, but I don’t consider Munoz to be one of those. I see this fight getting to the ground at some point, and when it does, Maia will show his amazing talents and win by choke.
