Mayweather Jr. came out a little slow, as Cotto exhibited some success in the early rounds to get out ahead on some of the scorecards.
But, as the fight prolonged, Mayweather Jr. was able to use his speed and counter punching to tire Cotto. As the fight reached the late rounds, Cotto looked beaten physically and emotionally.
At the end of the contest, Mayweather Jr. won the bout 117-111, 117-11, and 118-110 on the scorecards.
According to oddsmakers, Mayweather had odds of -800 to win this contest, which means a wager of $800 on the unbeaten Mayweather will pay out an additional $100.
Mayweather Jr. now improves to 43-0 in his career with this win and fans will continue to hope for an eventual bout with Manny Pacquiao.
