Jones defeats Teixeira
Jones (20-1) retained his title by picking up a unanimous decision win over Teixeira (22-3). Jones was able to use his dynamic striking skills and length to pick apart Teixeira. The challenger was able to do some good things early in the fight, but got busted up on his face a great deal and slowly fatigued as Jones continued to land strikes. All three judges felt Jones won all five rounds in the bout. According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Jones was the clear favorite in the bout, as he had odds of -550 to win, which means a wager of $550 on Jones to retain will pay out an additional $100.
The co-main event saw an upset as Anthony Johnson (17-4) defeated Phil Davis (12-2) by unanimous decision in his UFC light heavyweight debut. Johnson was too strong and powerful for Davis, who couldn’t score the takedowns he needs to win. With the fight left on the feet, Johnson was able to land the big strikes to bust up Davis and earn the fight on the judges’ scorecards. Oddsmakers saw Johnson as the slight favorite with a money line of +180, which means a wager of $100 on him to win will pay out an additional $180.
