Marquardt vs. Miller Free Pick
Marquardt enters the fight as the favorite to win according to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Bodog.com with odds of -300 while Miller comes in with odds of +240. Marquardt was originally scheduled to face Yoshihiro Akiyama, but Akiyama pulled out following the tragedy in his homeland of Japan. Miller was preparing for an undercard bout at UFC 128 and stepped up to take on Marquardt. UFC 128 takes place from Prudential Center and will air live on Pay-Per-View at 10PM ET.
WHY PICK MARQUARDT
Marquardt (30-10-2) is consistently one of the top fighters in the middleweight division as he has a good mixture of striking, wrestling, and submission fighting. His strength is hard for many in the division to match, which makes him tough to get to the ground. Many times he overwhelms opponents with his pace and power. Miller has to make more adjustments to prepare for Marquardt as opposed to Marquardt preparing for Miller.
WHY PICK MILLER
Miller (13-4) is similar to his lightweight brother, Jim Miller, as he is an aggressive wrestler that lacks a lot of striking ability. Miller has won his last two bouts, but that was after a three-fight losing streak. Miller has been hard to stop as all four of his losses have come by decision. Marquardt has struggled with wrestlers as he lost decisions to Yushin Okami and Chael Sonnen in the last year. But, Miller is not as big and strong as both of those fighters.
WHO TO PICK?
I expect this fight to be very close as I think Miller will score some takedowns, but struggle to keep the stronger Marquardt on the ground. Ultimately, I think Marquardt will showcase the better all-around skills to get the victory, though I see it coming in a very tough decision. My pick is with the favorite.
