Franklin vs. Griffin Pick
Franklin enters the fight as the favorite according to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com with betting odds of -170, while Griffin comes in with odds of +140 for the contest. UFC 126 takes place from the Mandalay Bay Events Center and will air live on Pay-Per-View at 10PM ET.
HOW FRANKLIN WINS
Franklin (28-5) has a similar style to Griffin in terms of he is largely a standup fighter with a range of strikes and good defense when the fight hits the ground. Franklin will have to use his smaller frame to his advantage to win as he has to stick and move and not just get into a slugfest. If Franklin can work his southpaw stance and throw Griffin off, he should be able to connect on some big strikes that will allow him to out-point Griffin for a decision.
HOW GRIFFIN WINS
Griffin (17-6) can win this bout by making it ugly. His striking is solid, but he will likely be slower and less crisp in that area compared to Franklin. Where Griffin has the edge is with his size. He is a big light heavyweight and he needs to make this fight happen in the clinch, where he can put his weight on Franklin and tire his arms out. Griffin can mix in some takedowns and use his submission skills to keep Franklin on the defensive. Griffin has the ability to be KO’d, but I don’t see Franklin utilizing a lot of one-punch knockout power.
WHO TO PICK?
Franklin and Griffin have suffered some tough losses, but for this fight, I think Griffin will have the edge as he has fought similar opponents before and done well. Franklin will struggle to deal with Griffin’s size and Forrest can mix in his boxing and kicks while dictating where and how the fight takes place. That should be enough to earn him a decision victory from the judges in a competitive fight.
