UFC 143 Betting Odds

LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – The UFC will crown a first-time champion on Saturday night in the main event of UFC 143.

UFC 143 takes place Saturday night and the main card will air live on Pay-Per-View at 10PM ET. The event takes place from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Preliminary bouts will air live on FX.

The main event of UFC 143 features Nick Diaz (26-7) taking on Carlos Condit (27-5) for the UFC Interim Welterweight Championship. Oddsmakers see Diaz as the favorite with odds of -205 to win the contest while Condit has a money line of +165. Neither fighter is the champion as this contest was set up following an ACL injury to current champion, Georges St. Pierre. This should be a tremendous fight as both guys like to scrap and let the fight take place from anywhere. Both feel they will have the better skills and conditioning to win the bout, but neither man has been easily put away in their career. It is hard to say that either fighter has an edge in any position in this fight, but Diaz has been on a tear the last few years and people are starting to feel he is unbeatable.

In the co-main event, heavyweight contenders clash as Roy Nelson (16-6) faces off with Fabricio Werdum (14-5-1). Oddsmakers have Werdum as a slight favorite, with a money line of -150, while Nelson comes in with odds of +120. Nelson has been a UFC vet, but is coming off losses in two of his last three fights. A black belt in jiu-jitsu, Nelson is more known for slugging it out and being able to take a punch. Werdum was the fighter that ended the long win streak of Fedor Emelianenko back in June of 2010, but he hasn’t fought since June of 2011 when he suffered a decision loss to Alistair Overeem. Werdum is a submission specialist that lacks much striking ability. The key to this fight will be for Werdum to control the fight on the ground, but Nelson may be able to negate that and control the fight on the feet.
