Hominick vs. Roop Pick
KILLEEN, TX (TheSpread) – Mark Hominick is fighting for a Featherweight title shot if he can get past George Roop on Saturday at UFC Fight For The Troops 2. Here is a breakdown of my pick for this contest.
UFC Fight For The Troops 2 takes place from Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas and will air live on Spike TV at 9PM ET. Hominick enters the fight as the favorite according to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com as he has betting odds of -250 while Roop comes into the fight with odds of +190.
Mark Hominick (19-8)
A former UFC lightweight veteran, Hominick has risen up the featherweight ranks, winning his last four bouts to earn himself top contender status. Hominick has great boxing skills and plenty of quickness that he mixes up with good submission skills. What could be a problem in this fight is his size, as Roop is a much larger fighter and it may be difficult for Hominick to find his range without eating a jab or two.
George Roop (11-6-1)
Roop is still somewhat new to the division but is coming off his best performance yet, as he had a head kick knockout of Chan Sung Jung. At 6-foot-1, Roop is large for the division and uses his jab and kicks well to keep his opponents on the outside. For this fight, he will have to use that reach to keep Hominick from dictating the fight. If the fight goes to the ground, Roop should be okay with his long legs to utilize his guard, but he will want to stay off his back in order to win a decision.
Who To Pick?
I see Roop really posing problems for Hominick. His size and kicking power could throw Hominick off his game. If the fight goes to the ground, Roop has the ability to use triangles to get submissions and with the pressure of a title fight at stake for Hominick, I look for him to be pressing a little bit. This fight is one where I like the upset. My pick is with Roop. UFC FREE PICK: GEROGE ROOP +190
