Dunham vs. Guillard Pick
KILLEEN, TX (TheSpread) – The main event of Saturday’s UFC Fight For The Troops 2 is a lightweight scrap between Evan Dunham and Melvin Guillard.
UFC Fight For The Troops 2 takes place from Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas and will air live on Spike TV at 9PM ET. Dunham enters the fight as the favorite according to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com as he has betting odds of -225 while Guillard comes into the fight with odds of +185.
Evan Dunham (11-1)
Dunham is one of the rising stars in the lightweight division. He is coming off a split decision loss to Sean Sherk, but many feel he won that fight. Dunham is a good ground wrestler with excellent wrestling and submission skills. He is also able to push a fast pace, which will pose problems for Guillard. This will be the first time Dunham has faced a clearly superior striker, so it will be interesting to see how he handles that.
Melvin Guillard (26-8-2)
Guillard is an athletic and strong fighter that throws a lot of power into his punches. He has one-punch knockout power, but he doesn’t always have the best punching technique, which leaves him open to takedowns. In his career, 16 wins have come by KO or TKO but in eight losses, seven have been by submission. Guillard has to show improved ground skills in order to keep this fight on its feet, where he can win.
Who To Pick?
My pick in this main event goes to Dunham. Until Guillard can show that he can defend takedowns and avoid submissions, I can’t place my money on him to beat a strong grappler, which Dunham is. Dunham has gained some big-fight experience as of late and that will pay off here. Look for him to score a choke late in the first round for the win. UFC FREE PICK: Evan Dunham -225
