Guida vs. Gomi Prediction
LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – Two scrappy lightweights will slug it out at UFC 125 on Saturday as Clay Guida takes on Takanori Gomi. Here is a breakdown of my pick for this contest.
UFC 125 takes place from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and will air live on Pay-Per-View at 10PM ET. Guida enters the fight as the favorite according to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com as he has betting odds of -150 while Gomi comes into the fight with odds of +120.
Clay Guida (27-11)
Guida is a scrapper that is short and compact and has a good wrestling base. He is willing to slug it out, but his short reach usually puts him on the short end of the exchange. Guida is at his best when he can score a quick takedown and then use ground-and-pound striking to ride out a decision victory.
Takanori Gomi (32-6)
The Pride legend is now 1-1 in the UFC and looking to get his biggest win in the octagon yet. Gomi is a striker that has a lot of power in his hands, but he relies heavily on those hands to win fights. Gomi tends to leave himself open to takedowns with his overly-aggressive punches, but for this fight his style can work against Guida, who tends to let himself get into heavy exchanges.
Who To Pick?
Guida is the favorite but he has struggled against guys that were solid strikers and Gomi is that. Guida will be tough to finish, but I expect Gomi to land a big strike in a few early exchanges and then follow up with a barrage of fists on the ground or a choke for the win. My pick is for Gomi to get a first-round finish. UFC 125 FREE PICK: TAKANORI GOMI +120
