WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Spread) – The Nationals and Braves are heading in different directions but Atlanta may provide value for bettors tonight.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Nationals are -146 money line favorites over the visiting Braves, who are +135 road underdogs. The total for tonight’s 7:05PM ET start time is currently sitting at 7 runs.
Despite their recent success, the Nationals are just 2-5 in Jordan Zimmermann’s last seven starts against the Braves and 1-4 in his last five home starts versus Atlanta. The Braves, surprisingly, are 26-11 in their last 37 games versus their division rivals. They’re also 5-1 in Ervin Santana’s last six starts, 4-0 in his last four starts with five days of rest and 6-1 in his last seven starts with the total set between 7 and 8.5 runs.
The Nationals are also just 2-5 in their last seven games versus National League East opponents and 0-4 in Zimmermann’s last four starts as a home favorite of between -110 to -150. The Nats have a sizable lead over the Braves in the NL East, as they head into tonight eight games ahead of Atlanta for the divisional lead. But for whatever reason, they haven’t had success when Zimmermann takes the hill versus the Braves.
As for the total, the under is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams in Washington and 5-1 in the last six meetings overall. The under is also 4-1-2 in the Braves’ last seven road games, 5-1-1 in their last seven games following a loss and 6-2-1 in their last nine road games versus a right-handed starter.
