HOUSTON, TX (The Spread) – Could Johnny Cueto find himself switching leagues in a few weeks?
CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reports that the Astros have “keen interest” in Cueto and he could be “their top target.” Heyman was told by a team source that “they know they need a starter” and with the club currently contending for a wild card berth in the American League, the Astros might be ready to make a bold move to acquire a front-of-the-rotation arm like Cueto.
Cueto is set to become a free agent this winter and with the Reds sitting 15.5 games back of the Cardinals in the NL Central, the ace is expected to be traded by the end of the month. A team such as the Dodgers could also be interested, as they have both the prospects and money to acquire Cueto, perhaps even for the long-term.
Oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets currently list the Astros as 16/1 long shots to win the 2015 World Series.
