ST. LOUIS, MO (The Spread) – According to Alex Marvez on Twitter, Rams running back Todd Gurley will meet soon with Dr. James Andrews for a checkup on his surgically repaired knee.
Gurley is seven months removed from ACL surgery after tearing his knee in what wound up being his final season at Georgia. He’ll reportedly meet with Dr. Andrews in the next few weeks and despite not suffering any setbacks in his recovery, Gurley is questionable for Week 1.
The Rams are counting on Gurley to play a significant role in their run-heavy offense, but Tre Mason proved last year that he’s more than capable of starting in the NFL. When Gurley is healthy, he should form a nice pair with Mason, who rushed for 765 yards and four touchdowns on 179 carries his rookie season.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Gurley is 7/1 to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2015. Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston is the current frontrunner to win the award at 5/1 odds, while Chargers running back Melvin Gordon is 6/1.
